The Unpardonable Sin – Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit

Last updated on:

The Bible makes it very, very clear. God the Father has sent His one and only Son Jesus Christ down to our earth to physically die on a cross in order to give all men and all women total forgiveness and total remission for all of their sins – which includes all past, present, and future sins that we will ever commit.

This gift of eternal salvation is available to every single person who will accept Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. The Bible makes it very clear that “whoever” calls upon the name of the Lord for eternal salvation will be saved from their sins if they are willing to accept Jesus Christ and His sacrificial death on the cross.

However, in 3 specific verses from Scripture, Jesus makes a very serious bone chilling statement. He says that the only sin that cannot be forgiven through the Blood that He has already shed for all of us is a direct blaspheming against the Holy Spirit.

What exactly is He meaning by this? What exactly is a blaspheming of the Holy Spirit? Many Christians have freaked out over the years wondering if they have possibly committed this unpardonable sin.

I will first start out by giving you the two main verses where Jesus is making this statement, and then give you the interpretation of what I feel Jesus is trying to tell all of us with this statement.

The Scripture Verses

1.  This first verse comes from the Gospel of Mark. Before Jesus makes this statement, He is getting attacked by some of the Jewish Scribes. Jesus was casting demons out of people and these scribes were trying to tell everyone that Jesus was casting demons out of people by Beelzebub – the ruler of the demons.

In other words, they were accusing Jesus of casting out demons by the power of Satan himself.

Jesus then answers them right on the spot telling them how could Satan cast out Satan?

He tells them that a house divided against itself cannot stand, and that it would make no logical sense for Satan to be casting out either himself or another one of his own demonic spirits. Satan would just be defeating his own purposes by even trying to do such a thing.

Now here is what got these Scribes in major trouble with the Lord. They obviously knew they were witnessing major supernatural miracles seeing Jesus cast demons out of people.

But instead of just walking away and keeping their mouths shut, or trying to discredit Jesus by saying nothing was really happening, or that these people were either not really possessed or all of this was just a figment of their imaginations – they make their one and final comment which will forever seal their fate for all of eternity – they literally attack the Holy Spirit Himself by saying that He was in fact the devil himself!

They knew that Jesus had something else operating on the inside of Him that was accomplishing all of these dramatic miracles. The Bible makes it very clear that it was the power of the Holy Spirit operating through Jesus that was doing all of these dramatic miracles.

But instead of leaving well enough alone and just walking away and keeping their mouths shut, they just had to take that one last final jab at Jesus and directly attack the Spirit that was operating on the inside of Him – which was the Holy Spirit Himself! And once they did – they were done! Right after this occurs, Jesus then makes one of the most bone chilling statements on sin that He has ever made.

Jesus specifically states that “all sins” can be forgiven through His blood – including any blasphemies against either Himself or anyone else. But the one sin that He and His Father will not forgive is a direct blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. Here is the verse:

“Assuredly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they may utter; but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation” – because they said, “He has an unclean spirit.” (Mark 3:28-30)

Notice in the last few words of this verse that Jesus specifically ties in the blaspheming against the Holy Spirit with the Scribes stating that He had an “unclean spirit” operating through Him. In other words, Jesus was condemning them to hell for all of eternity because they were calling the Holy Spirit a demonic spirit!

2.  The second verse comes from Matthew. Again, the same scenario is unfolding where the Pharisees are attacking Jesus for casting a demon out of a blind and mute man.

They once more accuse Him of casting this demon out by Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons. Jesus once more goes into the exact same explanation as He did in the above verse from Mark where He says that Satan is not going to cast himself out – as a house divided against itself cannot stand, even in the demonic realm.

However, Jesus makes one more additional comment in this verse. He says that He is casting these demons out by the “Spirit of God” – which is the Holy Spirit.

Right here, the battle lines are being drawn. Jesus is saying on the one hand that He is doing all of these miracles by the power of the Holy Spirit operating through Him – and then you have some of the Scribes and Pharisees alleging that He is doing all of these miracles by the power of the devil.

Then Jesus once more comes down with the hammer and says:

“Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.” (Matthew 12:31-32)

Without question, this statement being made by Jesus is one of the most dire and extreme warnings He has ever given. He is literally telling us that there is one specific sin that will never, ever be forgiven – and that one sin is a direct blasphemous attack against the Holy Spirit Himself.

Jesus even says that you can speak a word directly against Him and that you can still be forgiven – but He will not forgive anyone who will directly attack the Holy Spirit.

Interpretation Of Blaspheming the Holy Spirit

So what exactly is Jesus meaning when He talks about someone who is directly “blaspheming” the Holy Spirit?

1. The word “blaspheme” in Webster’s Dictionary means to “speak irreverently or profanely of or to God, to curse or revile.” Another part of their definition says “any remark or action held to be irreverent or disrespectful.”

Many of the different Bible Dictionaries describe blasphemy as “insulting, cursing, lacking reverence for God, claiming deity.”

There can be no question that calling the Holy Spirit, who is God and Lord Himself, the devil himself, is without a doubt the most blasphemous statement you could possibly make against Him.

Calling the Highest of all Beings the lowest of all beings is without question the worse possible thing that these Scribes and Pharisees could have done.

Not only was this the height of pure stupidity, but it was also the height of pure arrogance and pride.

As a result, they ended up being the first set of people that Jesus pronounced this very severe judgment on.

2. However, how does all of this apply in our day and age? Can this unpardonable sin still be committed today?

Many Bible scholars believe that this unpardonable sin cannot be committed today.

They believe this sin could have only been committed back at the time when Jesus was walking on our earth. In other words, you would have to attack Jesus direct just like the Scribes and Pharisees did to be found guilty of this sin.

However, I am not quite sure about this position. Here’s where I believe the first level of interpretation comes in as to what this verse might mean for all of us in this day and age.

From the way the above two Scripture verses are being worded, there is no question what God is trying to tell us.

If you had verbally attacked the Holy Spirit, operating through His Son Jesus while He was living down here on our earth, by telling Him that He is the devil himself – then you would have directly blasphemed the Holy Spirit, and as such, God has now rendered judgment that this transgression will be considered unpardonable in His sight.

Now if we take this same scenario into our present day and age, and take an anointed, born-again believer who is walking with the power of the Holy Spirit operating through him to heal the sick and cast out demons just like Jesus was doing – then what happens if an unbelieving scoffer comes along and says the exact same thing – that these miracles are not being done by the Holy Spirit, but by Satan or one of his demonic spirits?

Is this unbelieving scoffer guilty of committing the same unpardonable sin as the Scribes and Pharisees did back in Jesus’ day?

Personally, I think there is a good chance that this unbeliever may be guilty of committing the same unpardonable sin – especially if he knows that a real miracle is taking place just like the Scribes and Pharisees did.

If you will notice, many scoffers will not even tread into this kind of territory. If they see a Christian who has the anointing to heal the sick and cast out demons, they will either think that nothing is really happening, or if something is really happening, that it is just the power of suggestion.

Most doubters and unbelievers will either think that there are no demons to begin with, or if there is, that any healing or deliverance that may have just occurred was just the power of suggestion acting on that person causing them to believe that they had been healed or delivered from demons.

Very seldom will you see an unbeliever do what the Scribes and Pharisees did back in Jesus’ day and call the Holy Spirit Himself the devil or a demonic spirit.

However, if someone should be as bold and as arrogant as some of these Pharisees were, and step out and directly blaspheme the Holy Spirit with this same kind of accusation – then I really think the exact same principle may apply as it did when Jesus was walking with the power of the Holy Spirit – and that these people would be just as guilty of committing the unpardonable sin as the Scribes and Pharisees were back at the time that Jesus was walking on our earth.

I believe the same analogy would apply. The Holy Spirit is living and operating on the inside of each born-again believer today just as He was with Jesus.

If God the Father is calling any blasphemous attacks against the Holy Spirit operating through His Son Jesus as the unpardonable sin – then I personally believe that God would call the same thing out in this day and age if any scoffer would do the exact same thing – call the Holy Spirit a demon or the devil operating through an anointed, born-again believer.

3. I know there are some Christians who have wondered whether or not they have committed the unpardonable sin. Demons love to play a person with this kind of false accusation once they move in on them with one of their attacks.

Some Christians think they may be guilty of this sin because they have been wrestling with God over certain issues, or they may have thrown major temper tantrums actually yelling at God. Just because you may be wrestling with God, yelling at Him, telling Him that you are going to walk off His playing field, losing some of your faith with Him, shutting down, not wanting to go to church or read your Bible – none of these things is a direct blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

Many Christians will wrestle with God from time to time, especially when they get hit with any type of serious storm cloud. This is why the apostle Paul calls our walk with the Lord a “fight of faith.” Sometimes we have to fight to keep our faith up and in God, especially when we are going through some very trying circumstances.

The only way I believe that any Christian could be possibly guilty of blaspheming the Holy Spirit would be if they were to change camps by either becoming a full pledged atheist by refusing to believe that God actually exists anymore, or by literally switching camps to worship, serve, and follow Satan direct.

The Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit will not strive with a man forever.

If a Christian starts to head down into these kinds of extreme dark waters – the Holy Spirit will be doing everything He possibly can to keep them from going over into this kind of evil territory.

But if after a certain amount of time this person keeps refusing what the Holy Spirit is trying to tell him to do, and they then harden their hearts to the point where they will no longer listen to God, then I believe that God will quit striving with them after a certain point and then that person will be lost forever.

If that should occur, then I believe this may also be considered a direct blasphemy against the Holy Spirit – especially since the Holy Spirit had been the main One to actually wrestle and strive with this person over such a long period of time.

What could be more blasphemous than telling God that you no longer believe that He actually exists, or if you decide you want to change camps and worship and follow his archenemy of all time – the devil himself?

Per the article I did titled, “Can a Christian Lose Their Salvation?” – I believe there are several powerful verses from Scripture that do show that it may be possible for a Christian to lose their salvation with the Lord. I know many will argue they do not believe in this.

Their argument is that no true Christian could ever fall away to serve Satan or become a full fledged atheist.

They feel if something like this should ever happen, then this person was never truly saved to begin with.

I really believe there are people who have had true born again conversions with the Lord when they were 15 or 16 years old – and then 20 or 30 years later they fall into dark side waters like changing camps to follow and serve Satan direct, become serial killers, serial rapists, or become involved in some kind of gang or organized criminal activity where they are literally killing other people for profit.

I believe that in each one of these types of extreme cases the Holy Spirit has been in major wrestling matches with each one of them trying to get them to retain their salvation. But again, the Bible says that the Holy Spirit will not strive with a man forever. There is a limit to God’s patience and mercy and how long He will chase and strive after someone.

Anyone who manages to lose their salvation by deliberately refusing to heed the warnings and strivings of the Holy Spirit on some of these more serious types of transgressions may be guilty of blaspheming the Holy Spirit.

4. The other area where someone may possibly be guilty of blaspheming the Holy Spirit is when the Holy Spirit is chasing and striving after someone who is not saved.

Again, this verse where the Holy Spirit will not strive with a man forever may also apply to Him chasing after an unbeliever, where He is trying to show them the errors of their ways and the errors of their thinking.

If after a certain amount of time this unbeliever refuses to accept God’s calling, refuses to turn from the sins they may be living in, refuses to accept what Jesus did for them at Calvary, refuses to accept all of the laborers that God may have sent their way to try and get them saved – then God will pull back and quit striving after them.

And if that should occur, this person will then be done! And if this should happen to an unbeliever, then I believe there is also the possibility they would be guilty of blaspheming the Holy Spirit – especially since the Holy Spirit was the main One who had been wrestling with them over all of those years

There are some Bible scholars who believe that this may be another definition or interpretation of what blaspheming the Holy Spirit is all about.

Though this is a bit of a gray issue, I believe they may be right with this assessment.

To those Christians who think they may be guilty of having committed the unpardonable sin, study the above two Scripture verses very carefully.

Unless you have directly called the Holy Spirit Satan himself or a demonic spirit like the Scribes and Pharisees did back in Jesus’ day, then you are nowhere close to having had committed this unpardonable sin.

The only other possible scenario would be if you have decided to completely forsake and abandon God all together by choosing to believe that He no longer exists, or deciding that you want to change sides and follow and worship after the devil direct.

Even then, you will still have some time with the Lord to see the errors of your ways and the bad choices you have made.

God will not give up on you and He will continue to chase after you, even if you have fallen into a Satan worshiping group. Many people who have fallen into these types of dark groups have been rescued and pulled out of them by the Lord after a certain length of time.

But again, the Bible says that the Holy Spirit will not chase after and strive with a man forever. Realize that there are limits and boundaries to God’s patience, grace, and mercy.

Unless you are treading into these kinds of extreme dangerous grounds with the Lord, then you are nowhere close to blaspheming the Holy Spirit. Losing some of your faith in God, getting mad at Him, holding grudges against Him, pulling back on Him, and arguing and wrestling with Him are not direct acts of blasphemy against His Holy Spirit.

God is obviously not going to be happy with this kind of child-like, immature behavior, but you are not going to lose your salvation over it, and you are not going to be deemed guilty of blaspheming His Holy Spirit by throwing some of these kinds of immature temper tantrums.

The Bible says that our flesh and spirits will war against each other and for some, their flesh will at times get the upper hand on them.

But do not misconstrue this type of roller coaster ride in your walk with the Lord with either blaspheming God the Father or the Holy Spirit. This is why Jesus had to come down and die for all of us on the cross – because of the sin nature that we were all born into this world with.

Just realize who you really are in Christ, and learn how to grow and mature in your walk with Him and try to keep your temper tantrums and pity parties to a bare minimum.

This life is way too short to be wallowing in wrestling matches with the Lord, holding grudges against Him, and questioning some of the decisions He has made with your life.

Realize that God the Father always knows best, trust that He has made the right decisions in the way that He has been handling your life, and press on into the divine calls and assignments that He has set up for your life.

You only get one chance in the eternal scheme of things to accomplish God’s perfect will for your life down here on this earth.

Do not blow it or lose it because you have been wrestling with God over all of these years over issues that you will end up finding out later on were a complete waste of time to be arguing with Him in the first place.

Remember, God is perfect – you are not!

God always knows best – you do not! God can see into you future – you cannot!

Trust God – because you cannot trust yourself or the world in general to achieve your full potential in Him in this lifetime!

  1. There are scriptural references about the 3rd Heaven, believed to be the Celestial Kingdon where God the Father dwells. There, Christ sits on the right hand of the Father to rule and reign forever. Those who are partakers of the Terrestial Kingdom, the second heaven, will enjoy the companionship of the Savior but fall short of God’s presence and glory. The lowest kingdom is the Telestial Kingdom. The rebellious and those who have rejected Christ but will be redeemed to some degree will enjoy the ministration of the Holy spirit. Once you have rejected the Holy Spirit there is only one other location to spend eternity, that being outer darkness or HELL!

  2. Sooo i was explaining this to a lady So saying the name of the Holy Spirit and say he’s demonic u commit the sin u have to blaspheme his works??His works or his name ?? Cause I remember I once got mad at god and said holy spirt is dem** I was confessing that to a lady with my mouth does that count as a sin because I couldn’t stop thinking what Jesus said or what that sin ment 🙁 after i read it i couldn’t stop thinking about day and night and then I was confessing it to a lot of people or does god know I’m worry ?? cause I’m sooo worried because mark chapter 3 verse 20-30 says if u call him a devil there will be no forgiveness 🙁 please don’t judge my writing I just need help !!! Do u think it’s a sin if I confessed it to people about what I said about the holy spirt like I would tell them that I said the holy spirt is dem** I confess that to people with my mouth because I was worried do u think it’s still a sin by confessing that with my mouth?? or does god understand me???

    • Something like this thing happened to me I was 12 or something I might have been angry and then I just thought and blurted out God got his powers from bleep then was horrified I didn’t mean it and burst into tears after I don’t know if I am damned. Does it have to be public to blaspheme? Like a slanderous statement about him to others from the heart? I was alone then and when I was 19 the thoughts came and I was horrified and I said he did not not get his powers from blank I was horrified and added a not. Ok this sounds weird but I kinda said what the pharisees said and that was always my worst fear. It’s not from my heart am i damned. I since have completely given myself to him and am living and baptised for him but is it all for nothing am i damned? Can I not give him my life now? I would never rationally slowly say anything bad about him much less believe or tell others it
      Plz help me!!!!-

      • Dear Brother. I believe the spirit inside you made you say those words. I’m sure you didn’t commit it. I have been attacked this way too I’ve never spoken anything but the Devil has tried to get me to Kill myself

        • Can you explain more what is it to Blasphemy the Lord?I think it mean to not deny the Lord or holy Ghost or spirit. Also means to go against him him. But Is there more to it?

      • Remember, GOD knows your heart and your inner most thoughts. With the scribes, in the verses, they never believed in the Holy Spirit. GOD knew they would never believe. In your case, and many others, GOD knew where you were coming from and what made you say that. And it’s okay to be mad at GOD. GOD understands our anger as He experienced it through Christ while He walked the earth. Remember, we may say things, but GOD knows the truth of our hearts, even before we do.

      • I have had that in my head. Plagued in thoughts about the holy spirit. Saying the same as you. None has passed my mouth but I suffer. I cast the. Down, rebuke them and all sorts. I ask God to block them it first happen. I feel doomed a d shipwrecked. It will literally take a miracle to set me free.

  3. Hi brothers and sisters. I’m just a simple man. Blasphemy is defined as ” bringing to naught ” isn’t it? As flawed as we are we are still trying to ” bring to fruition “…our Father sees and knows this. Do you think He loves us any less just because we have such a hard time in our struggles to know him and think and act as He would like us to? I trust and love Him because he said He would save me if I believed in Him and His Son. That’s all I need…i believe He will do what He said. Ya’ll are in my prayers…..

  4. I hate, yes hate, I hate blasphemy laws and Jesus Christ does too. Blasphemy laws were what Jesus Christ was allways arguing with the Judaism Pharisees about.

  5. Because I am forgiven by Jesus I am free to be a person of God and call apples apples and oranges oranges….

  6. Holy spirit of jesus christ you are the sinful curse and the dirty damned devil be damned to death and hell.

I am forgiven for this blasphemy because jesus died for me.

Jesus died for ALL ALL go to heaven.

Hans Urs Von Balthasar (A catholic priest) wrote a book called “Dare We Hope That ALL Men Be Saved”

Pope francis in 2013 said “The Lord has redeemed all of us, all of us, with the Blood of Christ: all of us, not just Catholics. Everyone! ….. Even the atheists. Everyone!” (Pope Francis 2013)

I agree with this Quote and am thankful for it.

  7. Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ You are the sinful curse and the dirty damned devil be damned to death and hell.

The God of today’s jewish religion judaism is the same as the God of Islam. The God of today’s jewish religion judaism which also is the God of Islam is NOT the God of Christianity. Christianity has a different God than Islam and today’s judaism. Islam and today’s judaism both do animal sacrifice and other semingly similar such things. Christianity does not do animal sacrifice; its people get ahead by the one time sacrifice of Jesus God Christ. The waring notions of today’s judaism and Islam (the waring madness of Islam and the waring madness of today’s judaism) serve as a testimony against them. today’s judaism is the devil. islam and Allah are the devil. I have to tell the truth about this . I cant and wont keep silent about this anymore. Truth be Told. . Jesus died for ALL ALL go to Heaven because of Jesus Christ.

  9. Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ You are the sinful curse and the dirty damned devil be damned to death and hell.

I am forgiven for that blasphemy because Jesus died for me.

Jesus died for you you will go to Heaven.

Jesus died for Christopher Sadoun Christopher Sadoun will go to Heaven.

  10. One thing that I learned first hand is that human can come to you with a message from God, and if you reject that person over a period of time, you can unknowingly be committing the same act. I had no idea that so many prophets walked among us today. I fought with one off and on for 2 years that tried to pull me away from certain things. This one was never allowed to mention scripture quotes unless I did first, or point them out in the Bible. She never mentioned Jesus Christ name. Now I know who she really was. I am being punished every day for not realizing who was talking to me. Always listen, especially when a new person comes into your life, or you ask God for something. Be very careful. I only hope that He will forgive me.

  11. @david
Had you known anything about the Holy Spirit before you said this against Him? i.e. Had you experienced Him in the church before, but then turned away?

Since that time, has God shown you in any particular way that He has forgiven you? For instance, has there been a time where you felt God say, “You are mine,” and then you opened the Bible to a scripture that said the same thing, only to have a friend tell you that they heard the same thing from God the next day? Or something like that?

    @Adam Robert Mark Wasson

When you spoke against the Holy Spirit, did you mean the enmity you expressed toward Him?

Since that time, has God shown you in any particular way that He has forgiven you? For instance, has there been a time where you felt God say, “You are mine,” and then you opened the Bible to a scripture that said the same thing, only to have a friend tell you that they heard the same thing from God the next day? Or something like that?

  12. I am a Christian Universalist which means I believe blasphemy against the holy spirit is forgiven. And so because I believe that blasphemy against the holy spirit is forgiven I therefore believe ALL go to Heaven. I am not a unitarian.

  13. when i was a young girl i went to a church service…i got there a little late an i saw ppl fainting and shaking…i didnt understand so i ran and told my aunt that there was an “evil thing” in the church….i didnt understand wat was happening. i learnt of the unforgivable sin and it eats at my soul to this day…i…i feel empty and afraid….i dunnu if i commited this sin again out of ignorance, idleness or what over the years…i feel afraid and i need God’s mercy….i dunnu how to go on…..i have my entire life ahead of me and i dont want this weighing me down..i wud go into days or months of depression..i get so scared i throw up and tremble…i dunnu where to turn….i just pray to Him for his understanding an his fogiveness….i want to be able to sing again..i want to be happy…i cant even be alone for long because i start to think an it starts all over again…..

  14. Many people wonder what the “unforgivable sin against the Holy Spirit” is. In the original Greek the word sin here is “blasphemos”, which in Greek means a “profanation”, an exposure of special knowledge.
It is obvious that in the universe everything is trying to run down to undifferentiate into nothingness, or some are being built up by that which is running down. Our person is a closed circuit in the arising reticular formation of the medulla oblongata of the brain.
Whatever undifferentiates this circuit causes pleasure. Ultimately it can undifferentiate into nothingness. There is a veil in the brain which veils the great satisfaction of deep sleep and other common causes of unconsciousness. Pleasures override this veil.
There is a secret sound, called the “lost word” which gives you moments of near nonexistence. If the nonexistence was total you would remain permanently nonexistent. This sound is the cylindrical sound. It induces other closed circuits which, by the attraction of confluency, causes the personal closed circuit some undifferentiation, which is that euphoria called “nirvana”. The “lost word” bypasses that veil, and shows that nonexistence will be the total satisfaction of all desires.
There is a Hebrew word, which is called “onomatopoeic”, which means that it sounds like that which is described. It is the “lost word”, which means a “well”, a hollow cylinder, spelled “aleph yod nun”, translated, “ain”, but pronounced “eyennn…, like the German word for one, “ein”.
Ain also means nothingness, that which is sampled by paying attention to this sound; and an eye, and a ring. When meditating upon this sound you will also see inside your closed eyelids concentric rings, like an eye, with black in the middle, then around that, rings of violet, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, and outside that, brown.
Knowing that the satisfaction from undifferentiation into nonexistence is infinitely greater than any possible joy of a billionaire, is the special secret of the Holy Spirit. In the one substance, energy, motion can only be in closed circuitry, that there be something to move out of the way and fill in behind. Everything is ultimately composed of closed circuits.
The true opposite polarities are the direction of this circuitry: counterclockwise (male) on one side, and, clockwise (female) on the other side. The iron in the cytochromes of every cell are magnetically polarized, facing out, counterclockwise in males, and, clockwise in females.
Undifferentiation of circuits by the undifferentiation provided by confluency (counterclockwise and clockwise are confluent when face to face) is polarity cancellation. A very fast polarity cancellation rate is fire. A fast polarity cancellation rate is identical with a fast entropy production rate, which is an analogue of velocity in mechanics, and likewise, but without the gravitational component, accesses globally bent timespace. The Underworld is in globally bent timespace.
So, those who “know where it’s at”, know the secret of the Holy Spirit, don’t want immortality. They are “unforgivable” for they don’t want to be forgiven. They want to delve into the Lake of Fire for the orgy into permanent nonexistence, the eternal satisfaction of all desires.

  15. What is Prophecy?
Prophecy is always a promise of God. God gives prophecy-promises of hope to His children. God also gives prophecy-promises of judgment to those who disagree wither are indifferent to Him.

    Can men give prophecy?
No! Genuine prophecy comes only from God. “No prophecy was ever an act of human will” (1 Peter 1:21)

Why is prophecy (a great gift from God), avoided today by many? Why do Lutheran pastors often avoid preaching on prophecy?
In recent years a small group of Baptist, Pentecostal, Charismatic, and Dispensationalist preachers have predominated television preaching. These preachers claim that the key prophecies of God deal with the state of Israel. These misguided preachers have twisted God’s prophecies and removed Christ from the center of prophetic preaching. By doing this, they replace Jesus Christ with the geographical state of Israel. This misuse of prophecy has cause many Lutheran pastors to avoid teaching about prophecy altogether, thereby leaving their people in the dark and without the hope that God desires to give His people through Christ-centered prophetic preaching.

If you were to make a tree diagram of all Old Testament prophecies–with a branch or twig representing each specific prophecy–why would Genesis 3:15 be the root of this big “tree” of many old testament prophecies?
There are 1,189 chapters in the Bible. Already in the third chapter of the first book, God gives His “root,” His “foundation block,” or His cornerstone prophecy. This cornerstone prophecy on which all other prophecies are built is Genesis 3:15. Every activity of the entire Old and New Testament is tied in some way to Genesis 3:15, just as every branch and smallest twig of a tree is in some way tied to the root.

The primary purpose of GOOD NEWS is to give its readers hope. As You turn these pages and see specific prophecies explained, you will also experience the hope God desires to give you.

Popular and heretical preachers of prophecy usually focus on the Bible books of Revelation, Daniel, and Ezekiel. These books are then used to explain current world politics, especially current events, and to guess when Jesus will return. The greatest condemnation of these charlatans is the clear teaching of Jesus: “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone” (Matthew 24:36)

As already noted, the Dispensationalist teaching of prophecy takes Jesus from the center of all prophecy and replaces our blessed Lord with the state of Israel. In Luke 24:44, Jesus says, “All things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” Dispensationalists, in effect, have recast this section of God’s Word to say, “All things written about the state of Israel in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” Furthermore, as Luther points out, Israel, even in the Old Testament, has always referred to those who believed and followed God, not to a particular race of people or to a certain geographical area.

Over the centuries, in its worship services, the Christian church has always used the Psalms. The Psalms regularly refer to Israel. When the Psalmist is referring to Israel, he is pointing to those whom God has promised to bless. In their false understanding of Scripture, the Dispensationalists have misled millions to believe that the Psalms are referring to God blessing the state of Israel, when, in fact, the Psalms refer to a blessing God wants to give to all who are worshiping him. In other words, the heretical Dispensationalist theology twists and redirects God’s promises of blessings from children who are His through Baptism to those they believe are His through geography.
So, the bottom line is this. When people in your congregations are hoodwinked into believing Dispensationalist theology, they do not experience the blessings that God has to give them as His New Israel! (Romans 9:1-8)

Among themselves Dispensationalists would agree that the leading schools teaching their interpretation of the Scriptures would be Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois, and Dallas Theological Seminary in Texas. One of the founders of Fuller Theological Seminary was also a major promoter of Dispensationalism.

The most popular teacher of dispensationalism has been Hal Lindsey, the author of The Late Great Planet Earth which sold some 35 million copies and was translated into over 50 languages. In more recent years, Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins authored the Left Behind series of books, which netted each author over fifty million dollars. These figures demonstrate how widely this 19th-century American heresy has been spread and the threat that it poses to Christ’s church. Jesus says, “Many will … mislead many” (Matthew 24:5).

All people, even those committed to secularism, are interested in getting a peek into the future. Thus, when a charlatan comes along who claims to be interpreting present and future events ACCORDING TO THE BIBLE, there are many buyers! Even members of the U.S. Department of Defense were known to be reading The Late Great Planet Earth in the hope of seeing the future of world political and military movements. One author noted that reading The Late Great Planet Earth was like getting an advance copy of tomorrow’s newspaper!
Finally, on e could read many, many books explaining how the twisted theology of Dispensationalism has impacted politics in the United States and other parts of the world. But politics is not our mission at GOOD NEWS. While we have taken some space to point out the deadly menace of Dispensationalism, you can see that the greater percentage of this issue is devoted to the true and correct Biblical understanding of prophecy, a great blessing God wants you to have!
Dispensationalism is effectively exposed in volume XIII of Confessional Lutheran Dogmatics: Escatology by John R. Stephenson. p. 83-97, in the essay titled, “Fictitious Signs of His Coming: Sundry Dreams of the Dispensationalists” (Published by the Luther Academy, Fort Wayne, IN. 1993).

For Bible Study questions about this page, turn to page 41 and use questions 43 through 45.

    43. The heresy of Dispensationalism has been promoted by many popular evangelical preachers on television and radio. Major schools of theology, such as the Moody Bible Institute, promote Dispeationalism. Bestselling books like The Late Great Planet Earth, and even the series, sow the tares of dispensational thinking in the minds of million of Christians (Matthew 13:24-30). Nevertheless, Dispensationalism is not a God-Pleasing doctrine. Jesus warns us: “Many will come in My name … and will mislead many” (Matthew 24:5).

    44. Jesus claims that the entire Old Testament speaks of Him (Luke 24:44). Dispensationalism removes Jesus from the center of Biblical prophecy and replaces Him with the modern state of Israel. Dispensationalists base their teaching on obscure passages while ignoring the Bible’s clear teachings, such as: “But of that day and hour no one knows” (Matthew 24:36). Finally, Dispensationalism robs God’s children of the comfort of their Baptism. By focus-ing on bringing back the political state of Israel, Dispensationalism denies God’s promise that, through Baptism, He has established the Christian church as His New Israel (Romans (:1-8)

    45. No matter how persuasive and exciting television preachers or popular books may be, always remember: Christ, not the state of Israel, is the center of all Scripture (Luke 18:31). When you hear novel interpretations drawn from books such as Revelation or Daniel, keep in mind: “No prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation” (2 Peter 1:20). Search the Scriptures daily (Acts 17:11), and compare the claims of Dispensational teachers to God’s clear testimonies, such as Matthew 24:36 and Romans 9:1-8. Fix your eyes on Jesus (Hebrews 12:2), knowing that the entire OLd Testament speaks of Him (Luke 24:44). And bear in mind that all prophecy springs from the root of Genesis 3:15. When you are armed with these clear Biblical teachings, and refreshed by God’s forgiveness in Word and Sacrament, you will be able to “stand firm against the schemes of the devil” (Ephesians 6:11).

  16. Hey TJ you should give me a call. 484-five five 3- 6325 im charlie. ive been through this. call me please

  17. Hi im born again since i was a child i really cant remember when i accepted Christ but since April this year i had some sort of weired experiences which led me to hospital and for some reason i think that i had committied the unpardonable sin. these thoughts started overwhelming my mind they would come on at anytime any where it would be the same thing over and over. one day i was about to rebuke the devil and muddle up my words …was gonna say evil wicked and in the same sentance i said spirit of the living god..but i was about to ask him to helm me. I couldn’t control the thoughts…that played in my head like a broken recod. I went to my pastor and talked with him many times. Sometime they would Go away. but then comeback untail one day i was doing well until that day. those words came out muddled out
I tried to commit suicide prior to this i had done prior research cause i didn’t understand what was happening. they put me into the hospital wich didn’t really help they put me on med which seem to be the peoblem cuz they all started when i took the meds and they got progressively worse. then they told me to write about it …then all the thoughts came back. and this thought/ phrase( I curse u so n so)
it wasn’t God or Jesus. then that thought keeps playing over and over this has been going on for 5 mths i fight them off with the word

  18. I don’t know…..but I now have leprosy. Kinda odd in the US, and in modern day? Yes, ever since In an emotional moment watching a film I eveidently insulted the spirit of grace. This is where I am 2 years later. Everything crashed down. I am only praying every day that I can experience His presence again.
It was just an emotional moment, and I questioned God? I really hope he will forgive me, and cleanse me. This is killing me slowly….When I sleep its awful, and when I wake up, it’s worse than any nightmare….I was in great health at 55, but feel dead now. No energy, and bad blood cond. Please pray for me. I dont wanna live without Christ.
I was a sinner, but enjoyed a good relationship with HIM. It really was out of ignorance and emotions, so please be careful.

I just wrote my expeience below yours. You have nothing to worry about at all as your thoughts are not sin nor blasphemy. We all have thoughts that can be bad as Satan tries to control us. Jesus said thoughts do not condemn you unless they make rest in your head to commit. I REALLY BELIEVE YOU HAVE ISSUES OF OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE DISORDER. I myself am very obsessive OCD, and I am very much like you as I read your story. I will pray for you as well, but keep in mind you are in no trouble. Read my story below yours. THAT’S TROUBLE !!!! ….Dave Crew

  20. Someone HELP ME ! ! ! !

It wasn’t until about in early 2009 I came to know the meaning of ” Blasphemy Against The Holy Spirit” I actually have heard of it, years ago, but did not know of it. It was a spine chilling revelation that took me back 25 years ago to an experience……

…. Back in 1985-1986 summer night, I had come to a wall in my walk as a Christian having sin problems, guilt, etc ever since I was a “babe” accepting the rightiousness of God by accepting Jesus Christ as savior of my soul in 1979-1980. But overcoming sin was problematic, and the guilt and convictions got worse all the time. I was so terrified, and bewildered. I then thought that I should not be here on earth and that God should have never to have put me here. I wanted “OUT” and not be subjected to the bible and God’s plan ; never for me to have existed ! ! ! I then turned into bitterness and outrage, and took it all out on the Lord. Again, Summer of 1985-86 I walked out in to the middle of a Farm Field that Friday Night and shook my hand toward heaven and said: ” You should have never given me life here ! ! I WANT OUT OF HERE ! ! ! Is this what you want, to throw me in Hell ! ! ” IS THAT WHAT YOU WANT ! ! ! I then cursed at him like a mad-man many curse words and totally outraged ! ! ! ! I thought this alone was the ” Blasphemy Of The Holy Spirit “, but upon talking to a Pastor after my knowlege of this awful sin ( mentioned in scripture) in 10/2009 , he said no, and he explained because I am concerned it shows I could not have done so……..

……* * * But in 3/2012, a revelation of memory came to me and I fell faint as a dead man ! ! ! ! ! I recall the last words I said to God in my fit of rage ” YOU ARE THE DAMN DEVIL ” ! ! ! ! ……. What a terror to have, and to think there is no turmoil for all the sufferings of the world that people go through then for them to know how much worse it is to be separated from God forever, not only if being unsaved, but knowing you are ” out ” before you die by trespassing forgiveness and going to hell with no way to be redeemed of it ! ! ! ! * * * * I am now held in a grip of deadly fear for the rest of my life to the moment I close my eyes for the last time on earth, and then what happens the very moment afterwards ! ! !…………

……. There may be hope if since I did this unholy deed out of total ignorance like the Appostle Paul did when he said he blasphemed God out of ignorance and received forgivness. BELIEVE ME, IF I HAD KNOWN THE SCRIPTURES ON THIS SUBJECT PRIOR TO THAT DREADFUL NIGHT, I WOULD HAVE NOT EVEN GOTTEN MAD AT GOD, AND EASILY HOLD MY FRUSTRATION AT BEY ! ! Also many readings of links on line of this topic, theologians surprisingly mention this as well. They also believe a believer can’t commit it because after the Cross, Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father and is not performing miracles being present on earth. Theologians also mention AFTER THE CROSS, THE SCRIPTURES NEVER MENTION ” BLASPHEMY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT ” AT ALL, AND SAY IT WAS A SIN IN DURING THE OLD TESTAMENT JUST PRIOR TO THE CROSS…………. However, I came across a book by
” RC Sproul ” – – ” CHOSEN BY GOD “and he believes it is a sin of the tounge\lips. I also again fell over when he mentioned and witnessed a man doing almost the very same thing I did out in the MIDDLE OF A STREET. I ALWAYS TOLD MY STORY ME BEING ” OUT IN THE ” MIDDLE ” OF A FARM FIELD ” ! ! ! AGAIN, READING THAT STORY IN HIS BOOK FLOORED ME TOTALLY ! ! ! THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS I DID NOT ADDRESS JESUS, OR THE HOLY SPIRIT, BUT JUST SHAKING A FIST TOWARD HEAVEN NOT MENTIONING ANY OF THE GOD HEAD ! ! ! Hopefully that may save me. However, I fear not as I was addressing the sky above toward heaven which may mean all 3 persons of the God Head for that matter.

……. IF I AM OTHERWISE GUILTY, I BELIEVE MY ONLY HOPE IS TO SEEK GOD’S FACE AND PLEAD HIS TOTAL “SOVERENTY ” THAT HE COULD ” CHANGE HIS MIND “AND SEE MY HEART TO GIVE ME ANOTHER CHANCE ! ! ! Did not Moses plead with God to change his mind when in his kindled anger against the israelites, he told Moses to step aside as he was going to destroy these unruly people and make Moses’s generations into a mighty nation of people ? ? When God heard Moses’s plea, he repented from his judgement…………..

……. I PLAN TO WRITE MY REPENTENCE OUT AS KING DAVID DID IN PSALMS EXPRESSING HIS REPENTENCE, keep it in a sealed envelope and leave it with a Christian to open after I am gone from this world, that it will be acknowledged to other believers……….

…… I PLEAD THE ULTIMATE SOVERNTY AND HEART OF GOD TO HEAR ME, LISTEN TO ME, AND REMEMBER ME ! ! ! !……. When I came to the knowlege of this ghatstly unpardonable sin, I have prayed many times for God to cast my behavior of blasphemy into the DEPTHS OF HELL AND NOT ALLOW THE DEVIL HIS GLORY SINCE I BELIEVE IT WAS HE WHO SIFTED ME LIKE WHEAT THAT NIGHT TO DO SUCH AN UNGOLDLY THING LIKE THAT ! ! ! !

  21. Every sin is blasphemy against the Holy spirit.

“For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.” (Bible, New testament, James 2:10)

So blasphemy against the holy spirit is forgiven along with all sins because Jesus died for you you will go to Heaven.

  22. Hey Jay can you look at the email i sent to Lindsay. It will be of help. Take it upon yourself to rebuke satan and make it a habit to rebuke those Demons. But also spend time praying and memorising the word of God. It may be uncomfortable fo a while if you arent used to it. But you will soon fall in love with the mighty awesome word of God like i have and your mind will be loaded with its cleansing power. Iam not sayimg that you will totally not have any unholy thoughts. What iam saying is that you will have control over them.

  23. I’ve seen this happen to alot of people. Its sad to see this. Ive been pondering this awhile. i remember the word saying no one can serve two masters. and also there is two main spirits at work. The Holy Spirit and the spirit of the antichrist. when i was a unbeliever and didnt know the truth, it was a lopsided fight. i was blinded and didnt know of such light. The enemy plays this card alot i see. i posted about my troubles also. As believer’s who have been convicted of our sin and have been given repentance and light of the truth and have accepted the love of the truth, this is his last ditch effort to take away the joy we have in Christ. We must ask our self why is God letting this happen to us? he could be letting this happen for the greater Good. Let us trust him. because he is perfect. We all know that the light of God is Awesome in Love and might, full of mercy. How could anyone speak against it once seeing it? Pray for all those who are going through this, i do know the fear and anxiety its a scary thing. see the three things that have been done to me down below.

  24. Hey Lindsay
iam sorry you have been foing through this. Surely it is an attack from satan. What you need to do is thank jesus that he saved you. Then read Ephesians 6:11-24 which talks about putting on the armour of God. It is one of the great weapons God has Given us. Dwell especially on verse 17 because the attack is on your mind.
You need to use your God given authority and cast out any devils afflicting your mind and in you. But first check yourself and go through repentence where you have sinned. Then cast those devils out and by faith put on the helmet of salvation to protect your mind. Then you need to train your mind to focus by memorizing scripture. Memorizing scripture renews your mind and also strengthens the brain muscles and puts your brain under your control. I did follow these simple steps and now live in complete victory through the power of the spirit.

  25. Lindsay,
I had the same evil thoughts,it is satan at work. If you have Christ as your Lord and savior then you are occupied with the Holy Spirit and no one or nothing can ever take you over and occupy you. There is great strength in this. Satan tries these things when he see s you getting close to The Lord because he really thinks he has the power take you over but he does not. He came to me in several dreams and each time I clung to The Lord in pray,Christ gave me strength to shout out I rebuke you satan in my dream and the dreams stopped. You are not going crazy you are being tested and strengthen for the Lords work, stand firm in The Lord and press on. God bless
