The Great Commission – Save, Heal, Deliver, and Disciple

At the end of the Gospels of both Mark and Matthew, the very last thing that Jesus tells His apostles is for all of them to save, heal, deliver, and disciple. In the subheadings of the New King James Version of the Bible, this last great command given to us by Jesus is known as the Great Commission.

The Great Commission

Here are these two very powerful verses giving us this specific revelation from the Lord:

  • And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” (Mark 16:15-18)
  • Then Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen.” (Matthew 28:18-20)

I think Jesus purposely had these statements arranged to be His very last statements at the end of both Mark and Matthew for a very good, definite reason – and that reason is for all of us to get a real grip on what is most important in this life, that we all seek to be partakers of this Great Commission command, and that we never, ever forget what He is asking all of us to do for Him in this life.

One of the reasons we have started up this website is to give everyone some good, basic ammunition and knowledge in all 4 of these specific areas. Most Christians will never read the entire Bible throughout their entire lives, so we thought we would break it all down for you and give you all of the main Scripture verses pertaining to all of the main areas of our walk with our Lord.

By studying the specific Scripture verses that we have listed in each article in each specific section, you can get yourself up and running in no time in the knowledge and ways of God – and then be more than fully armed to be able to save, heal, deliver, and disciple others as Jesus is wanting all of us to learn how to do with the statements that He is making in these two specific verses.

Think of the ramifications and domino effect that would occur if each Christian could get themselves armed with enough knowledge where they could then be used by the Lord to go out and save the lost, heal the sick, deliver people from demons, and then turn around and know how to make disciples of the people they have just got done saving and delivering.

And then those new disciples could then learn how to do the exact same thing so they could then be launched off by the Lord to save, heal, deliver, and disciple other people as well.

One of the weaknesses right now in the Body of Christ is that too many Christians are sitting in the stands expecting their pastors and leaders to do all of this kind of work. But if you study this great command being given to us by Jesus very carefully, He is asking all Christians to get involved in these 4 specific areas of the walk, not just the leaders and ordained clergy of our churches.

Can you imagine what kind of a force and a 1-2 punch we would be if all of the main believers in the Body of Christ would learn how to do this, along with all of the local Christian churches? We would be unstoppable. But since so many Christians are just sitting and watching everything from the stands, the Body of Christ does not have enough laborers and troops out there to get the job fully done.

But I personally think that this is going to change in the coming years. It is my personal belief that we are truly living in the end times as prophesied from the Bible.

I also believe that there is going to be a rapture and before that rapture occurs, God the Father is going to do everything He possibly can to try and get as many people on board that rapture train before the Antichrist emerges full force onto the world scene to begin the Great Tribulation, which will be the last 7 years on this earth before Jesus finally comes back to set up His Millennium Kingdom.

I believe that God the Father is going to pull out all of the stops to try and get as many people saved as He possibly can so they do not have to go through the horrors of this coming Great Tribulation.

Jesus Himself has told us that this Great Tribulation will be the worse times that the world has ever seen and that there will never be another time as bad as this time is going to be. As such, we are going see the love and mercy of God be poured out through His Holy Spirit to try and get as many people saved and on that rapture train as He possibly can before this horrible time of great trouble hits our earth will full intensity.

And one of the ways that God the Father is going to make this great move on the unsaved population is through many of the individual believers, along with anointing many Spirit-filled churches to be able to handle the heavy influx of new believers.

The Bible tells us that in these latter days, that the Holy Spirit is going to be poured out on all flesh, and when this happens, dreams, visions, and prophesies are going to be very common among God’s people. The reason being is that God is going to have to supernaturally communicate to His people in no uncertain terms so He can get this kind of a big mission fully accomplished.

Here is the verse that gives us this specific revelation that there will be a major outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the latter days:

“And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions; and also on my menservants and on my maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days.” (Joel 2:28-29)

If God is going to pour out His Holy Spirit onto so many people, and then He is going to start to give them supernatural dreams, visions, and prophesies through His Spirit, then you can bet your bottom dollar that He is going to want each of His believers to do something with that kind of supernatural gifting.

He will not want them sitting on the sidelines keeping all of this kind of supernatural activity to themselves. He will want them out on the streets in their immediate circle of influence trying to reach as many unsaved people as they possibly can with His message of eternal salvation.

As such, I believe we are going to see a mighty army being raised up by the Lord in these coming years so they can then be launched onto the streets to try and reach as many as the unsaved people as they possibly can.

Below I will break down these 4 specific areas of the Great Commission so you can see exactly how the Lord can personally use each and everyone of you in these four specific areas.

You do not have to be a pastor or some kind of an ordained minister in your church to be able to walk with God’s anointing so you can save, heal, deliver, and disciple. God can anoint every single believer with His power just like He did with the first set of apostles.

All you need is a little bit of knowledge and a willingness to be used by the Lord for these kinds of mighty exploits.

I have seen God personally raise up and anoint very hungry newborns with His power very early on in their walks with Him so they could learn very quickly how to save, heal, deliver, and disciple.

The Holy Spirit is an absolute Master at raising people up in His power, and then guiding and leading them on how to walk with His power so they can use it for the divine missions that He will send them out on.

The 4 Specific Areas of the Great Commission

1. Save

Without question, the number one thing God wants from each one of us in this Great Commission is that we learn how to get other people saved and born again through the shed blood of His Son Jesus Christ. There is absolutely nothing more important in this life than seeking to get an unsaved sinner saved from the fires of a real, live, living hell. Nothing compares to this specific mighty exploit for the Lord – absolutely nothing!!

As such, every single Christian should be willing to be used by the Lord for this specific assignment from time to time. As we have said so many times in our other articles, the Holy Spirit is an absolute Master at being able to arrange in your busy time schedules the way and the means to be able to effectively witness to other people in your immediate circle of influence.

You do not have to be a traveling missionary going to different parts of the world to be able to reach the lost.

We all have so many unsaved people sitting right in our own backyards with just our immediate family members, friends, and co-workers. The Holy Spirit Himself will lead you on these kinds of divine missions. He will tell you who to lock in on and start to work. He will give you the strategies, the flows, the knowledge, and the appropriate words to use so you can start to reach and work with some of these kinds of people.

All He needs is your willingness and your desire to be able to be used by Him for this kind of mighty exploit.

In the Bible Basics section of our site, we have our main article on the basics of the salvation experience through Jesus Christ. The title of this article is “The Basics of Eternal Salvation Through Jesus Christ.” In this article are all of the main Scripture verses having to do with our eternal salvation in the Lord.

If you will spend some good, quality time studying, meditating, and memorizing some of these key Scripture verses, you will be more than fully loaded with enough ammunition and knowledge in your mind to be able to be used by the Holy Spirit to lead a sinner into eternal salvation through Jesus Christ.

If you will do your part by studying and trying to memorize some of these key Scripture verses, then the Holy Spirit will do His part when you are actually trying to witness to someone else.

The Holy Spirit will literally bring back up to your remembrance the key verses He will want you to use on that person, along with giving you the specific strategies on how to get this person saved, as you may have to debate certain topics with this person before you can get them to accept eternal salvation through Jesus.

The Holy Spirit Himself will also move on that person, giving them the ability to fully understand what you are speaking out to them, along with convicting them and showing them that they are truly sinners in the eyes of God, and that only Jesus Christ can save them from the sinful state in which they were born into this world with.

In other words, you will have the power of the Holy Spirit Himself moving on both you and the person you are witnessing to if you will only have enough courage to step out and actually try and do it.

Again, absolutely nothing is more important in this life than trying to save a sinner from a real, live, living hell. And the key to be able to get someone saved is having the basic, working knowledge from the Bible on what the salvation experience is all about, and then being able to flow with the Holy Spirit once you start to actually witness to someone.

It is the Word and the Spirit working together that can lead a sinner into the love and mercy of our Lord and Savior – and God can use each and everyone of you for that kind of a mighty mission from time to time if you only will be ready and willing to be used by Him.

2. Heal

In addition to being commanded to save the lost in this Great Commission verse, Jesus is also telling us to heal the sick. One of the 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit is the gift of healing. What this means is that the Holy Spirit Himself can manifest His power to heal someone at anytime He should choose to do so if we will only have enough courage to pray and lay hands on the person who will need the actual healing.

In the Spiritual Warfare section of our site, we have an article titled “Healing Verses of the Bible.” In this article are 93 of the best healing verses in all of the Bible.

Again, it would be our recommendation that you read this article in its entirety and then study and meditate on some of the healing verses that are in this article. Then let God know that you will be a willing vessel for Him, and that He is free to manifest His healing power through you at anytime if He would like to heal someone of any kind of specific disease or illness.

If Jesus is telling us to heal the sick in this Great Commission command, then you know that we have His divine, healing power available to us through His Holy Spirit, and we thus should not be afraid to step out and pray for someone’s healing when it is actually needed.

Again, this great and mighty gift is available to any believer who is ready and willing to be used by the Lord for this type of divine mission. Though there are certain people who have been given the gift of divine healing as an actual ministry for the Lord, God can still use any believer at anytime to manifest this specific gift through if they will only be willing to step out and pray for someone’s healing when they will actually need one.

3. Deliver

If there is one area that many in the Body of Christ are weak on, it has to be in the area of spiritual warfare, especially in the area of warring directly against demonic spirits.

In the above verse on the Great Commission, Jesus is telling us to specifically cast out demons where and when needed. And if Jesus is giving all of us this specific command, then you know it is something that He wants all of us to learn how to do and not to be afraid to tread into these kinds of deeper waters with Him.

I cannot tell you how many emails we have received from people all over the world who are lacking good, basic, working knowledge in this area. They then come to our site, find out what they need in our Spiritual Warfare section, then apply it to the particular situation they are dealing with, and then get total victory over the demons who had been attacking them.

The two main reasons people are lacking good, basic, working knowledge in this area is either because they are too afraid of it and do not want to learn any more about it, or the churches they are attending are not doing enough good, in-depth teaching on this subject matter.

But in either event, there are just too many Christians out there who are lacking good working knowledge in this area and as a result, some of them are getting seriously and viciously attacked by some of these demons from time to time.

In our Spiritual Warfare section, we have many good articles giving you all of the basics of true spiritual warfare in the Lord, and it will not take you long to learn how to do this if you are ever faced with having to deal directly with any kind of a demonic attack.

We have had many people who initially had no knowledge in this area able to get up and running very quickly be studying these articles, and then were able to successfully engage and drive the demons off them for good once they actually applied the knowledge they had learned from our site.

All Christians need to realize that Satan and all of his demons were already defeated by Jesus at the cross. We now have the Holy Spirit and His power available to us to drive off any demons who may come against us. We drive off demons the same way Jesus did when He was walking down here on this earth – by the power of the Holy Spirit and by the Word of God.

You speak out the appropriate command words against the demons – and then the Holy Spirit will manifest His power against the demons to blow them out the back door. But you first have to verbally engage with them before they will leave. Many times they will not leave on their own.

For those of you who really want to learn how to do this, it would be our recommendation that you take your time and read all of the articles in our Spiritual Warfare section. These articles will give you all of the basics on this part of our walk with the Lord, and they will also serve as good reference material in the event that you are ever faced with any kind of demonic attack down the road.

If you really want to walk with the Lord’s anointing so that you can save, heal, deliver, and disciple, you will need to have some kind of basic fundamental understanding of this part of our walk or you could seriously handicap yourself should you ever find yourself having to face a demon or a group of demons head on.

To give a soldier a gun, but not show him how to actually use that gun, could get him easily killed on the field of battle. In the same way, we have the power of the Holy Spirit to be able to defeat and drive out demons, but we still have to learn the rules of the game and how to use that power before it will actually work.

For those of you who are afraid of this part of our walk, the one thing I can tell you from all of the people who have come to our Spiritual Warfare section so they could learn how to use this knowledge against the demons who were attacking them – the Lord got all of them up and running very quickly, and they had no problems in being able to defeat their demons once they had enough courage and boldness to step out and verbally engage with them by using the right kinds of battle strategies against them.

4. Disciple

Once you get someone saved, then the next step is that someone has to start to disciple them in the ways and knowledge of God so they can properly grow in the Lord. I feel every church should have some type of progressive, teaching system solidly in place for all newborns so they can get up and running in the basic areas of the Christian walk as soon as possible.

However, as we all know, not every church has this kind of progressive, teaching system in place. Again, this is one of the main reasons we have started up this kind of website – to give people a good, solid, progressive teaching system covering all of the main basic areas of the Christian walk.

Another area that every believer should key in on is to allow the Lord to use them to help disciple and coach other newborns on a one-to-one basis. God will actually lead you to the people that He will want you to work with, and then He will personally arrange for you to be able to properly do this, even if you have a fairly busy schedule on your hands.

A lot of this type of work can be done by phone and again, the Holy Spirit is an absolute Master at being able to fit in and arrange for this type of discipling to occur with someone, even in the middle of a busy, hectic schedule.

Many great men of God have said that what really helped them grow and progress very fast in the Lord was the mentoring and coaching they had received from other knowledgeable believers. If you have enough good knowledge in the Lord and His Word, then God can start to use you right now to help disciple and mentor other believers who really need help with their walks.

The pastors and clergy cannot possibly fulfill this need with all of their flock, so God needs other individual believers to take up this slack and enter the role of mentors for the people who really need it.

Just ask God to use you in this area if you would really like to fulfill this part of the Great Commission, and He will then start to move to connect you to the people that He will want you to mentor and disciple. If on the other hand, you feel that you are the one who needs the help and coaching with your walk, just ask God to lead you to the right mentors that He would like you to work with. If you do, the Holy Spirit will then move to lead you to the people that He would like to mentor and coach you.

This is a real big area with the Lord and I cannot tell you how fast you will grow in the Lord if you can get under the wings of a good anointed mentor. A good mentor can save you years of learning the ways of the Lord due to the learning curve they have already been through.

And then after you have been properly raised up by a good mentor, then you can turn around and do the exact same thing for other believers who will need help with their walks.

Conclusion

Once again, burn these four words into your memory banks if you want to enter into the real power walk with our Lord:

  • Save
  • Heal
  • Deliver
  • Disciple

When Jesus Christ Himself personally spells out and isolates these 4 specific areas in the very last statement that He makes to the apostles before He ascends to the Father, then you know we are dealing with a very important command and that we all should do our best to play our part in this Great Commission.

Lives are hanging in the balance, and your individual role in this Great Commission could be the determining factor as to whether or not a certain amount of people ever see the saving grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ before they die and cross over.

This site can give you a lot of the basic knowledge that you will need in the main areas of the Christian walk.

Combine this working knowledge with the anointing that the Holy Spirit can flow through you – and you yourself can become a real eagle for the Lord to help save, heal, deliver, and disciple as many people as you can before your day is up in the Lord.

Let the Lord Himself personally raise you up in these 4 specific areas, and then allow Him to use you as a real eagle to get the job done in these 4 specific areas, and you can then leave this world knowing that you had taken part in the greatest rescue and deliverance mission of all time.

The saving, healing, delivering, and discipling of as many souls as the Lord could possibly do through you during your short stay here on this earth.

Thank you for encouraging me in this way personally. God has been opening up my mind to this. I come from a church that does not practice or encourage this. My prayer is that God would use me in this way & also that my children would come to go forth living out this command also.

Thank you so much for "The 4 specific areas of the Great Commission - Save, heal, deliver, and disciple" I'm a new believer and fairly new to scripture and I have always felt like it would take me a lifetime to read and know God's word and then do the Great Commission but now this gives me much confidence that I need to fulfil this sooner rather than much later in my life! I'm so ready to get equipped and be bold as a Christian for my Lord and savior Jesus Christ. Thank you and God bless!

I got saved a long time ago and back then (at my church), I saw people saved, delivered, healed, and demons cast out; I even heard them speak as they were coming out. I know this is in the Bible because I heard it preached and read it myself. The Great Commission. The churches today don't do this at all, or at least I can't find one that does. They don't believe to do the work of the Lord, not even the pastors. I'm so glad the Comission is for all believers, and not just pastors or ministers. Jesus said, "and these signs shall follow them that believer", that means all believers who will take God at His Word and step out in faith to do what God has called believers to do - God working with us. Pray for boldness saints of God. Do the work of the Lord and release the power of God from within you. Jesus said, "and they (believers) shall lay hands on the sick, and they SHALL RECOVER.

I love this article it really inspires me to be bold taking a step to help others. Just two days ago Holy Spirit set me up to deliver someone from demonic attack whereby the person flesh was eaten alive by worms. All I did was to involve Holy Spirit and the Power of The Name of Jesus. I really experienced the annoiting of the power of Holy Spirit. After deliverance prayer I took the person to the church for further teachings. I'm glad and very joyous to be used in that manner. Now I know I have a part to play in great commission because I use to think I need some sort of promotion from the pastor to perform in that level. Now is time I become an eagle for the Lord. I give thanks to bible knowledge articles. May God Bless and hope we become prayer warriors with fellow believers.
