Devotional – Struggling At Work

Are You Having Struggles At Work?
To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’ “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life. Genesis 3:17

Work had become struggles for man right from the Garden of Eden after Adam and Eve fell. God himself instituted work. He gave Adam the responsibility of tending the garden; Adam was not to remain idle. He also allowed him to name all the animals on the surface of the earth, which was not a small job to do as it is both physically and mentally tasking.

Adam was enjoying every bit of what he was doing because he was doing them with God support, and everything was working well for him. But after he fell, the situation change, nature and creation no longer subject to him, they all rebelled against him, even the ground was cursed because of him. Life practically became a struggle on a continual basis.

By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.” Genesis 3:19.

It was sin that made work to be a struggle, period. Without sin work had been a real pleasure as God had personal chosen what man must do.

The situation can be reversed when we go back to God. Jesus said, Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28. That covers all kinds of labor that you may be subjected to. Jesus is the burden bearer, the solution to the problems of man, if He can single handedly carry the sins of the whole world, if He can face the devil headlong and collect the authority and the dominion he took from Adam, then there is no burden too heavy for Him to carry.

When you are in tune with God, and you allow God to tell you what you are to do, then work will no longer be a struggle but fun and fulfillment. It is God that created you, and He knows what He had deposited in you, what you are graced to do, only His counsel can give you a sure and perfect job satisfaction.

From Wisdom Hunters:

Is your work a struggle? Are you in one of the most stressful seasons of your career? If so, God doesn’t waste pain. It’s in your discomfort that He comforts and in your unease that He gives courage. If the Lord has your attention in an environment out of your control, stay true to what you can do and leave the results with God. In stress seek Jesus. “So my heart began to despair over all my toilsome labor under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 2:20).

You can work on earth and store treasures in heaven so that after your sojourn here you will have eternal properties waiting for you. Only God has a retirement plan that does not end. You will live to enjoy it for everlasting. Even if you are jobless here on earth, if you belong to God, He will still arrange a sure package for you. He did it for Lazarus in Luke 16:19-31.

On the other hand it will be a real disaster if you are well employed here on earth, only to get to hell where the fire does not quench, and the worm does not die, there and then your struggles has just started.
