Homosexuality and the Bible

while back ago, I heard on a radio talk show that 52% of all Americans now believe that the homosexual lifestyle is normal acceptable behavior. The media and Hollywood have done a very good job in bringing about this tolerance and acceptance with the American public.

The homosexual movement has now fully entered into mainstream society, and from here on in they will only continue to get stronger and more vocal in their beliefs and what they would like to accomplish. They are now officially out of the closet and they want the rest of the world to know about them and their movement and that there is nothing morally wrong with their lifestyle.

As a result of the spread of this movement into all walks of our life, we have found that many Christians are now searching online for God’s opinion on this issue typing in such phrases as homosexuality and the Bible. In the Body of Christ itself, you now have many gay and lesbian Christian ministers who believe that God has no problems with this kind of lifestyle.

For those who would like the specific Scripture verses on homosexuality from the Bible, I will list the two main verses below. In my opinion, there is no other interpretation as to what these two verses are trying to tell us. There is no gray area on this issue! You cannot spin these verses any other way!

God the Father is not only using very matter-of-fact and straight-to-the-point wording in these two verses, but He is also stating His opinion on this issue in a very intense way with some of the specific words He is using.

In the first verse I will list below, God the Father specifically states that a man shall not lie with another man as he would with a woman – and if he does, it will considered an abomination in His eyes.

The second verse then says that homosexuality is one of the sins that will keep you from being able to enter into heaven and will literally get you thrown into the pits of hell for all of eternity.

These two verses, in my opinion, are God’s one-two punch answer on this issue.

God first says in the Old Testament that it is an abomination in His eyes, and He then says in the New Testament that it is a sin that will keep you from being able to enter into heaven. I do not think God could give any more of a stricter warning on this issue than with the way that He has worded these two Scripture verses.

When the Lord uses the word “abomination” to describe a specific activity that He does not want us engaging in, it is the strongest and most intense word that He can use to let us know that none of His people can engage in this type of activity – with absolutely no exceptions!

To have God Himself state, without any other possible interpretation, that this activity is an abomination in His eyes and that it will keep you from being able to enter into His heaven once you die and cross over – is the strictest warning that He could possibly give us on this one subject. God means serious business with the way He has worded these two Scripture verses.

The Bible Verses

Here are the two main verses from our Bible that will give us what God’s opinion really is on this issue.

  1. “If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination.” (Leviticus 20:13)

  2. “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived, neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-11)

The Bible tells us that God the Father is the same today as He was yesterday. If God is the same today as He has been in the past, then this tells us that He is never going to change – either in His ways or in His personality!

Interpretation – if God the Father is calling any type of homosexual activity an abomination in the Old Testament, then He will also be calling any type of homosexual activity occurring in the New Testament an abomination. God is not going to be changing His mind on this issue just because we are living in the New Testament and under a new and better covenant with Jesus.

This is why God made sure to add the second verse above into the New Testament – to let us know that He has not changed His mind on this issue from the Old Testament – and to once more drive home the point that this is one sin that will keep you from being able to enter into heaven.

Conclusion

1.  There has not been much success in the field of psychology in trying to treat gay men and women. Once you have really stepped into the gay lifestyle, it becomes very hard for many of them to try and turn to a heterosexual type of lifestyle. For many of them, their homosexual tendencies started to develop at a very young age. They think that since they have had these tendencies and desires at such a young age, that these desires must be normal and they were actually born with them.

I personally believe there are demonic spirits who specialize in this kind of desire and somehow become attached to many of these people at an early age. It is the demon who is giving this person this unnatural and unholy desire, but the person obviously has no idea of this. He thinks it is his own natural desire and he has no idea that this unholy desire may be coming in from a demonic spirit.

As a result, some homosexuals who are delivered from this condition have to have the demons cast off of them in order to be completely set free from this condition. In most of these cases, psychotherapy and psychoanalysis will not work. It is only the power of God that can truly deliver a homosexual from this condition.

2.  If you will notice in the last sentence in the second verse above, it says that some of the people Paul was talking to had been homosexuals themselves.

After he lists the specific sins that will keep you from being able to enter into heaven, he then says “and such were some of you.” He then says they were then “washed” and “sanctified” in the name of Jesus and by the Holy Spirit!

In other words, they were fully delivered from this condition by accepting Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, and then delivered from this unholy desire by the power of the Holy Spirit!

So in one powerful verse, God is telling us that He will not accept this type of lifestyle, but that there is full forgiveness and full deliverance from this condition under the shed Blood of His Son Jesus. This is not a hopeless condition, as God does have the full supernatural power to set homosexuals completely free from this condition if they really want this kind of deliverance from Him.

Many homosexuals really do want to be set free from this condition, but they feel there is no real way for them to be able to receive deliverance because they know normal psychological types of treatments will not work on them.

3.  If God should ever lead any of you to witness to someone who is living this type of lifestyle, show them these two verses.

Show them that God will not tolerate and accept this activity – but that He still does love them, that He will fully forgive them, and that He does have the power to set them completely free from this bondage if they really want to be set free from it. Hone in on the last part of that second verse to prove your point.

This one sentence shows that God did set homosexuals completely free from this condition back in Paul’s day. And if God did it back then, then He can still do it today for each person who will come to Him for their deliverance!

The Bible says that God does not change and that He is no respecter of persons. What He will do for one, He will do for another. There will be equal treatment for each person who will come to Him for their deliverance.

Show this to a person who has been living under this type of bondage most of his life and you will then give them hope and a light at the end of their tunnel. The Holy Spirit will then start to move on that person to help bring them out of this condition. However, the Holy Spirit always moves and works best when you give people the knowledge from the Word to back up your arguments.

For those of you who are battling this type of problem and are looking for ministries that can help you get delivered from this condition – there is a ministry called Exodus International that specializes in this type of deliverance.

Since the above article was written, we also received an email from a woman who had lived in the lesbian lifestyle for 18 years. She was able to receive a full and complete healing from the Lord on her condition. Her name is Jennifer Wilford and she has written a very good book on her entire ordeal with the Lord. The name of the book is “Blessed Therapy.” She also has her own website with the same name – www.blessedtherapy.com.

More ammunition for your arsenal should you ever need it on homosexuality and the Bible and what God’s opinion really is on this issue.

I’m not Christian or gay,and have always been surprised that anyone that is gay would be Christian. As the author points out so eloquently, the bible is very anti-gay as far as men are concerned.

  2. Dave says:

The Bible is Gods words and laws given via his earthly chosen messengers – if you have a problem with the bible you have a problem with God.

  3. I have sympathy with such people who say they were born that way.
I do not know the answer and cannot judge.
Certainly no offspring would result in such a marriage, so this
could have been God’s thought (?)
For myself I say leave them in peace to live their lives as a
    couple as many do.
Changing partners without true relationship by any couple is wrong,
for marriage is a sacred bond. So to those who have had several
partners, who is the better or worst.
We have seen that AIDS caused much tragedy and one reason God would
not sanction such relationships. God only wants what is in our
best interests as a whole and loves us all.

I am on the fence. I am 100% christian and on the fence between seeking help for my lesbian activities and just staying this way. I can’t seem to really shake it. I feel that it is the way I am, and I love it. It is intergrated into my life. I love it because I feel it is me…. It’s like being a female and God telling you you are male despite all evidence and likes. I don’t know what to do. I choose God above all but how do I even get rid of it? If it is not right then how do I loose it? I want to let it go but I love the culture and lifestyle. This doesn’t feel like sin. At all. I have tried to let it go hundreds of times but never did it stick. I’m only 16… I just want to be right with God… Help me.

  5. Ashley says:

Satan does a fantastic job of making sinning not feel like sinning. whether or not you feel bad about it, sinning is still wrong and it will always be. God is the only one who can change a life. you have to be willing to give up everything for God. what you think you “want” isn’t at all what God wants for you because He’s the creator. He knows what is best for you. listen to God and be free. Set yourself free from sin and this lifestlye by God’s grace. the problem is that people think they “love” the lesbian lifestyle but it’s just Satan trying to ruin you. Don’t let that happen.

  6. Alexei E. says:

    Hello everyone,
If it’s okay, I would like to say a few things regarding my stance on this topic. I hope my words will be read with respect and with thorough inspection, for I must let you all know from the start that I have trouble fully understanding as to why some people may not accept the homosexual lifestyle. Please understand that I don’t intend on offending anyone. I, like many, am just a man with an opinion, looking for answers.
I would like to start off from the Biblical verses stated in the original text. “If a man lies with a man as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination”. At first glance, the point that is trying to be getting across seems obvious, but there may be an alternate interpretation.
Just a few verses before that, Moses says that it’s an abomination to eat shrimp (Lev 11:9-12) and to also eat rabbits and to plant two seeds in the same field, among other things. The Bible is the words of God spoken by people in the idiom of their time. That being said, in the Hebrew Bible, the word abomination means either “against tradition” or “against ritual”, never used to refer to something that is innately immoral. In the case of Lev 20:13, it is simply saying that when one is engaged in homosexual behavior, it was a violation of a cultural norm, not something that is innately immoral. So homosexuality may not be as bad as one may have thought.
For this part, I’ll express my thoughts with the words of Steve Simon. He argues, “How much of homosexuality is nature versus nurture? Is this something that you learn or acquire or is this something that you’re born with? Is this just another lifestyle choice like skateboarding or gardening, or is this something that’s innate with a human being? I believe that sexuality and sexual orientation are a gift from God. And I think that scientific evidence shows that more and more every day. Sexuality and sexual orientation are innate, and something that people are born with. When you can be alone with your own thoughts to ask yourself if that’s true, if it’s even possibly true, what does that mean to the moral force of your argument? Just ask yourself. And I guess to put it into the vernacular, that what I would ask is how many more gay people does God have to create before we ask ourselves whether or not God actually wants them around? How many gay people does God have to create before we ask ourselves whether the living of their lives the way they wish as long as they don’t harm others is a godly and holy and happy and glorious thing?”
Another view point on the matter is that homosexuals are possessed by demonic spirits, which is the reason they are who they are. But let’s further dissect that notion. Demons are usually portrayed in the negative aspect, so I will assume that any person that is possessed by a demon has a negative effect on society and maybe even in general. But is the existence of homosexuals negative, or is it positive? Economically, if gay marriage were allowed, a vast amount of businesses would flourish. There have been many gay celebrities that have donated and contributed a large sum of money to charity and an even bigger chunk of their time to the improvement of our country. Since they cannot reproduce, it would give many children in orphanages a nice, loving home. Some may cringe at this and say that homosexuals cannot possibly be adequate parents. Why not? Similar to how African-Americans were (and still are treated), homosexuality teaches us that no matter how different you are, no matter what beliefs you have, no matter how you look or how you act, everyone deserves to live in a world where there is justice, fairness, wholeness, openness, acceptance, compassion and love.
At the end of the day, you have to ask yourself how and if homosexuality affects YOU. Why does it matter to anyone who is straight that a homosexual couple is tying the knot? I struggle to answer this question, because I believe that it doesn’t. Everyone deserves to live how they want, because life is too short to be anything but happy.

  7. Rose says:

with all do respect, I must add my opinion being I AM a lesbian and know what it’s like more than any hetrosexual does.
I had many questions myself, being that i AM A CHRISTIAN. I wanted to know for sure if I was ok with God. I did research and what I found was very simular to what “Alexei” said above. There are only a few scriptures on homosexuality (none on being lesbian). And both were referring to the laws of that time. There were many laws of that time that do NOT apply today, such as … sacrificing animals, do any of us do that? clearly the Bible stated in some passages that it was a must to do that. Stoning our children when they are disobedient, do we do that now? I hope you see my picture here. I am not saying God changes his mind but I am saying that those were laws wrote for that time period and MANY of them are not considered today and many would be considered barbaric today, ie: “Stoning your child”.
We did not have as many people in this world back then and I do not think beng lesbian or gay was well known as it s now, that is why there is not much talk on the issue at all (my opinion). All I know for sure is God created me for who I am. Jesus died in the cross for my sins just like everyone else and God loves me the same as anyone else and does not and will not throw me away just because of one small aspect of my life that I do believe I was born with. and … like Mike said … God does not bring us into heaven by what we do, he brings us by our faith in him and Jesus Christ.

  8. James says:

No-one is born this way. Homosexuality is an evil spirit, most of them speak the same, and act the same. These people need delivered and set free in the name of Yeshua the Messiah. Doesn’t God’s word tell us that as it was in the days of Lot, so shall it be in the days of the Son of Man? Why should we hide God’s word because of these liberal perverted government groups? Christians stand firm on God’s Word!!!
