Here’s some background on ICA and info on the run.  I know many people reading this will not be able to participate in the run but you can still donate for this cause. If you want to donate on behalf of my team, just put in Bible Knowledge Bookstore in the team area.

International Crisis Aid (ICA) has been rescuing girls from sex trafficking and forced prostitution since December 2006.

ICA opened our first home in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in March 2007. As of March 2009, ICA has expanded to include 5 rescue homes in Ethiopia with 40 girls and1 rescue home in Cambodia with 28 girls.

Once they are rescued and taken to their new home, the girls receive food, shelter, emotional and spiritual counseling, schooling, vocational training, medical care and a spending allowance.

ICA’s goal is to rehabilitate 10,000 girls in the next 6 years. This program is called the Safe Campaign.

In October 2008, ICA met with representatives from the FBI to discuss sex trafficking and the need for rescue homes in the U.S. for American victims of sex trafficking and forced prostitution.

ICA was told there are currently only 49 beds available in the U.S. for American victims.

If girls are rescued, they are forced into the juvenile system and usually charged.

As a result of these meetings,  ICA has decided to open homes in the U.S. for young American girls rescued from the horrors of sex trafficking, with the goal being to have the first home in St. Louis by the end of 2009.

Why Your Partnership is Crucial Sex Trafficking in the United States

• In June 2008, the FBI arrested 345 Americans—including 290 adult prostitutes—in one sting operation. (FBI)

• Since 2003, 308 pimps and hookers have been convicted in (US) state and federal courts of forcing youngsters into prostitution and 433 child victims have been rescued, according to FBI Director Robert Mueller. (FBI)

• A University of Pennsylvania study estimates nearly 300,000 children in the United States are at risk of being sexually exploited for commercial uses – “most of them runaways or thrown-aways,” said Ernie Allen, president of the NCMEC. (National Center for Missing and Exploited Children)

• 200,000 American kids are at risk for trafficking into the sex industry (youthnoise.com)

• Federal agents and local police in Johnson County, Missouri raided 12 businesses and four homes on 10 May 2007, rescuing 15 women from ‘massage parlors’. (Humantrafficking.org)

• Between 14,500 and 17,500 victims are trafficked into the USA each year (NCSOnline)

• The CIA estimates 40,000—50,000 victims)

• There have been reports of trafficking instances in at least 20 different US states, with most cases occurring in New York, California and Florida (Center for the Study of Intelligence) 797,500 children (younger than 18) were reported missing in a one-year period of time studied resulting in an average of 2,185 children being reported missing each day. (National Center for Missing and Exploited Children)

• For every 1,000 children in Missouri, 5-10 are in some state of maltreatment. (Department of Justice)

• One in 12 (82 of 1000) youth experienced sexual victimization, including sexual assault (32 per 1000) and attempted or completed rape (22 per 1000). (Crimes Against Children Research Center)

Information On International Crisis Aid (ICA)

1. International Crisis Aid (ICA) is a Saint Louis-based international relief and development organization founded in 2000 and established as a 501(c)3 in 2002
2. ICA’s mission is to assist in sustaining life, bring encouragement to those suffering and collaborate with other relief organizations in bringing necessary foods, materials and medicines to people in times of crisis, particularly where life and death situations exist.
3. Additionally, we attempt to bring public awareness to these situations and to solicit citizen involvement whenever and wherever possible.
4. Since 2000, ICA programs and services have reached out to children and families in need from Cambodia, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, North Korea, Indonesia and Sudan.

Going to church, reading the bible, worship, none of it seems to help.

For me, it wasn’t so much that but more on me, I started to think I have completely missed God. I am way off the beaten path, though I have surrendered, submitted to Him, somewhere along the lines, I’ve blown it. Either you are mad at yourself or God, both ways are completely missing what God is trying to get over to us.

Questions:

How then shall we live?
What can we do? How are we to find hope when God’s kindness hurts, when bad things happen that God could have prevented?
How do we trust God who gives us a convenient place to park the day after we’re told our loved one’s tumor is malignant?

I think the next paragraph he writes needs to be put completely in here:

“If we are to discover a hope that continues through shattered dreams, that hope must be available to everyone regardless of their circumstances. We must find a hope available to sick people, poor people, lonely people, unnoticed people. And it must be the same hope we offer to healthy, rich people with lots of friends and talent. We must discover a hope tha thrives when dreams shatter, when sickness advances and poverty worsens and loneliness deepens and obscurity continues, the same hope that anchors us to God when dreams do come true.

It’s harder to discover our desire for God when things go well. We may think we have, but more often all we’ve found is our desire to use God, not to enjoy Him. Shattered dreams are the truest blessings; they help us discover our true hope. But can take a long, dark time to discover it.

We must identify a hope that has the power to do something truly wonderful when the dark night descends and we see nothing but pain and disappointment in this life, a hope that does exactly the same thing when the sky is sunny.”

As I read the first paragraph here, one thing that was always in mind regarding some of the teachings I have had in the past was.. If it’s really Gods will to prosper and bless us, then why do so many of His children suffer so needlessly? And I remember reading the book by Chuck Swindoll on Paul and how Paul sufferered so much. I mean, according to so many teachers today, they would say Paul didn’t have much faith because if he did, he wouldn’t have suffered so much.

So many teachings in today’s church revolve around on how much God can make our life better which isn’t the case. I like what my pastor says.. “When you get saved, you get a bullseye on your chest.” As I tell others, it’s not that my problems and trials go away, heck, sometimes they may increase, but it’s how we handle them because they are no longer ours but Gods.

So what is this hope? Does it exist? Heaven is our ultimate hope. Larry goes onto say without heaven as our hope, Christianity offers nothing, basically its some good ethics to follow.

This reminds me of another good book, by John Bevere, Driven by Eternityy. Both points are we have to keep our eyes on the ultimate prize, which is heaven.

Are you heavenly or earthly minded?

Are you fixing your things above or are you too worried about tomorrow. Remember what Jesus said about tomorrow.

I know, easier said than done. But that comes back to a teaching on grace, which is Christ in us and Christ living through us. So how do we quit worry about the cares of this world. Simple, you go to God and ask for Him to do something. Abide in Him and the fruit of peace will be working in us but remember this….It’s Jesus working in us, not us trying to produce the fruit.

He then talks about Ted Turner, while in college, a friend of his died of cancer, though he was praying and believing for a healing, it didn’t come and then turned away from God. And now you can see the fruit of his bitterness of what he thinks of God.

That’s what why Larry was referring to disillusionment. My opinion is that too many people look at God as their genie, give me my wished and then I’ll be happy. As this book will go into further detail, what we believe God is and who he is, is even different for many Christians.

Next section begins with “Wju we’re alive at all”

Larry says that’s his problem with God. To people whose souls have been inundated with pain, God seems so unresponsive. We pray and nothing happens.

“What does it mean to hope in God as we continue to live in a world where good dreams shatter and God seems to do nothing about it?

I thought very good question. Guess where the answer lies? If you said, the Bible, you are correct!

Larry says it demands how we naturally look at lif. It demands an understanding why we’re alive at all, why God keeps us living in ths world for so long before we go to heaven.

Could it be that we have a wrong understanding of what life is meant to provide? We want godly kids, mates, help others, close friends, to enjoy God’s peace. Then comes “biblical” strategies for seeing that our dreams come true. They’re called “Godly parenting” and “discipline of spiritual living, principles of financial stewardship” all designed to give us a legitimately good time. He asks..”What’s wrong with that?”

We long to experience a compelling pleasure that eliminates all pain.

As Christians, “we give up immediate pleasures in order to later experience a deeper kind of pleasure, but we expect to feel that pleasure soon, certainly before we die. We insist on the internal good time of peace, of self-respect, of feeling at least pretty good if not full alive.”

I know as I look back at some of my rougher moments and life and realized the peace I had wasn’t true peace but it was more faith peace. What I mean is the peace I was getting was that this wast momentary, a test of my faith, darkest before dawn, blessings right around the corner.

I definitely didn’t have the peace that Paul talks about, whether good or bad times, I remain the same.

The problem is when dawn doesn’t come, you go through one trial to the next one and the last trial never gets fixed in the way you think it should be corrected. This usually leads to one thing, complete apathy, some form of depression because we are putting our joy in circumstances and not in our relationship with Him. I know a few times in life I just pretty much went through the motions of life b/c of my wrong thinking.

So now my prayer is.. God this doesn’t matter, just do a work in me, draw me closer to you because I can NOT do this in my own strength, You have to do it in me.
