Human Trafficking Statistics
September 29, 2009 by Tina
This post deals with some shocking human trafficking statistics.
We always hear about human trafficking. Yet, somehow, it seems we’ve gone calloused and look at it as something so detached from our reality.
The sad truth is that there are real people out there, people we don’t know, who are actually suffering because they are victims of human trafficking.
Victims are either taken forcibly or with consent and are forced to get into sexual acts against their own will. But the bottom line is that these people lose their human rights.
Below are some facts that will help you appreciate how this problem is considered to be uncontrollable.
In 2007, 27 million people are considered slaves in today’s modern society. The advent of technology does not seem to be the perfect setting for the barbaric state of slavery, but yes it is, and statistics will prove this fact.
There is smuggling of people happening each year, worldwide, and it has now reached 800,000 victims.
Women and children are still the favored target of human trafficking each year. They comprise 80% of the total number of people being trafficked.
161 countries out of 192 (according to the United Nations) are involved with human trafficking.
And while in bondage, there is approximatelty 30% of victims who will have an actual encounter with a health care professional but they will not have the chance to expose themselves.
There are 30,00 women in Romania declared to be missing who are pressumed to be victims of human trafficking, as international police reported.
Children comprise half or fifty percent (50%) of human trafficking target. And they become victims as early as 12 to 14 years old and they are most likely to get exposed to sexual exploitation.
Human trafficking, as an organized crime, is approximated to generate 32 billion revenue each year.
The industrialized countries are the main source of slaves or labor servants approximated at 15.5 million victims.
Individuals under the age 18, make up half of the total number of humans being trafficked.
No matter how far the problem may seem to be from our experience, the facts stated above is the sad face of human trafficking.
But the victims are afraid to divulge their situations because they fear that their families and loved ones’ safety will be compromised. Some are afraid that they will be deported.
The face of human trafficking is revealed through the statistics sated above, though they are but few. But these numbers grow by the day. It will definitely bring joy if these numbers decrease, but they don’t.
It may not be that simple to end this situation because poverty or economic problems is the root cause of human trafficking. But not taking any actions will definitely put more women, men and children at risk of becoming targets; thereby, putting their lives on hold.
That is why we, each one of us, should take a serious thought on taking small steps to put an end to this ruthless industry.

Have you ever thought that people who are athiests might look at this website, looking for details on human trafficking, say, for a GCSE in drama? Don’t talk to me about our treck with the lord please. I do, however, respect your beliefs, and I think you have every right to them, but please please keep them to yourselves. Thank you.
It is impossible for the publisher to keep his views to himself. He is doing what the Bible says to do by talking about our “trek with the Lord” he cannot stop doing what he is doing and what he is doing is not wrong. In Matthew 28:18-20 it says, 18Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” and by that no christian who is doing what they are supposed to do can stop talking about Jesus and salvation through Him and only Him.
Hmmm…
“I do, however, respect your beliefs, and I think you have every right to them, but please please keep them to yourselves … Don’t talk to me about our treck with the lord please.”
These are some very odd thoughts here. I respect your beliefs, you have every right to them, just don’t create a website that says anything about your beliefs. (?)
Come now, everyone who reads anything on the internet or other sources comes across beliefs that are different from his or her own. It strikes me as quite fragile, to not be able to read something that is written from a different viewpoint than your own. And, might I add, it is rather grandiose to ask the writer of this site to cater his writing to the “atheists [who] might look at this website, looking for details on human trafficking, say, for a GCSE in drama.” Hate to state the obvious here, but – He’s writing for his own audience (clearly not you).
My advice: either develop a thicker skin and read from a variety of sources (those similar to AND different from your own), or don’t. read. them. That simple.
No one’s forcing you to read this or any other site, religious or otherwise. The good news for you (don’t worry, I’m not talking about the Good News here) is: you get to choose what you read.
Just don’t down the writer because you can’t handle it.
Its amazing that you’d like to focus on religion and beliefs with such a tragic topic at hand. and that people back up the poster/webhost/writer… for what?
You (protagonist and denfenders) want to help somebody out? zoom in on the topic at hand and use your brain. how can we help these people who aren’t being criticized for what they write and how they write it, but instead are being used emotionally, mentally, and physically. 1 person is one too much and there are MILLIONS.
1 person complaining about what one person can write and another arguing about freedom of speach are 2 people less in strategy/help =degressing any aid we could create were our minds and hearts in the right place.
So Death Gambler… you do realize that you’re on a site that’s called “bible-knowledge”? Duh the bible’s gonna be incorporated. Don’t like the bible was forced upon you whenever you picked the site. Common sense is clearly lacking. Sorry for being mean, but come on. Seriously.
I couldn’t help but wonder how someone could come to a site entitled Bible Knowledge and not expect to see religious postings. What exactly did they expect to see. I realize that the topic under discussion is very serious and should be the main topic, but why in the world would you get upset about seeing religious postings on a site like this. If you don’t want to see that, don’t go to a site with the word BIBLE in the title. It’s that simple.
i think that the world is becoming so scary now days. why do people think they need a sense of control over other people? The government needs to step up and take action. this is a top priority! the US alone is the worlds largest consumption of sex slaves…an were suppose to be free!
Why are we free? Is it just because we live in the supposed land of the brave and home of the free?
We should have learned by now that true freedom does not come from doing what we want.
Many do what they want, slave traffickers, addicts of sex, drugs, addrenalin, power, you name it many are doing what they want but do not have true freedom.
There is true freedom found in one thing. A relationship with the living God and relationships with others where we seek to do what is best for others.
We must understand that freedom is available to allow us to live how we should not how we want!!!
your an idiot! being addicted to sex or anything for that matter isnt chosen. its mental.
true freedom is never really the freedom you picture.
What I think is sad is that basically everyone who posted on this article is arguing with someone who is obviously not concerned with the content of the article but rather his personal views. I am embarrassed for all of you, that you would allow yourself to be so distracted from the main issue which is that there are a lot of people, humans that are slaves. These people support the global economy by working in the underground economies of our world. I think that this possibly warrants more attention that some immature, angry person with little to no broad perspective. P.S just so there aren’t any crazy religious bashings or misconceptions that happen, I am an atheist too.
Honestly, if you don’t want to read about religious beliefs on a website, ex-out of it once you start feeling uncomfortable. Whoever wrote this has just as much a right to free speech as you do. I don’t think a comment about a “trek with the Lord” can harm anyone. If you really feel offended by that, I’m sorry, you’re entitled to your beliefs as much as I am. Whoever wrote this website is entitled to their beliefs as well. Christian or not, trekking with the Lord or not, human trafficking is wrong. Instead of saying, “I agree with you but don’t share your religious beliefs,” perhaps try, “I agree with you, human trafficking is wrong, let’s do something about it.” I believe it’s much more productive to look at similarities rather than differences. I think it works better this way.
