How Do We Draw Closer To God?

November 21, 2008 by

I thought today I would share with you my thoughts on drawing closer to God. This is truly where we gain our strength, peace, joy, comfort, understanding, knowledge… and so on… As we draw closer to God we are about to walk more in love and more in the fruits of the Holy Spirit.

Our walk can be like a raging inferno or like a fire that has been stomped out. Let me explain.

Think of it like this…

Our walk with God is like a fire that is burning..very hot very intense… and as we feed that fire by reading the Word, prayer… spending time with God, we continue to keep that fire going.

  • But what happens if we don’t put any more logs on?
  • What if we forget about the fire?
  • Sooner or later the fire will just burn out right?

Then all you see is the left over smoke rising up from the ashes.

To me that is the state of some Christians….

  • They have let their fire go out…
  • they have not fed their fire…
  • so they have nothing left but the smoke rising…
  • there is no warmth..
  • no heat….
  • no anointing …
  • no passion…
  • no love…
  • no being accountable for sinning… and so on…

You get the picture.

So How Do We GET THAT FIRE BACK?

We start to draw close to GOD!!!

WE come and say fill me up Lord! FILL ME UP! Breathe FIRE into me and fill me up… We read the WORD… we act upon the UNDERSTANDING GIVEN we reach out to others that are hurting.

We PRAISE HIM and WORSIP GOD… WE turn away from the comforts of this life to look forward to the life everlasting!

WE FOLLOW JESUS….. We spend time with Him…. Throughout our day… does not matter if your at home on the job on the road got 10 kids you can still pray think about praise Him even in the midst of your everyday lives…. if you choose too!

Read the Word before going to bed so that is the last thought you have before closing your eyes… wake up with coffee :) in hand and Read the Word when you first wake up!

Start and End your DAY with HIM!

“You will start to see a difference… Come Spend time with ME… It brings ME great JOY!!! “

The Lord has spoke this so many times and once again He is saying COME TO ME……

Be Blessed!

Amen Sister! I have been spending a lot of time in the word studying about the redemptive work of the cross. I am stunned by how I could have believed that God didn’t love me, truly t he bible is a testimoney to how much God loves us and all he has done to draw us back into relationship with Him. Jesus lived a sinless life while being fully human and died knowing all of what I had done would be upon him, he didn’t not anger at me yet humbly laid down his life for mine and still intercedes before the Father on behalf. Jesus left so that I could be set free from being enslaved by sin, only Jesus can set you free, it is my faith in Him that brings me into the new convenant. I walk with my eyes uplifted to the author and perfector of my faith. God so loved me he sent His only son to die for me, He drew me in His arms that day through Jesus. I want to be found in Jesus, not trying to work hard to be good, but to be found righteouss through faith in Jesus. And my response to this love, to this sencond chance to a gift I can never repay, to love God with all my heart, mind, sould and strength and all of His children as well. Jesus lived these two commandments and everything hangs on them. We focus on not committing adultery, drunkeness, gossip, murder and so on, but if you truly loved God, if you knew what He had done for you what you had been saved from, your response would be to love in return with your whole being and to run to the Father through Jesus and say “I believe, help me with my unbelief” Everything is laid bare before Him to whom we must give account. Trust only in God, consume the Word as real food and drink, pray in the Spirit and put on the righteousness of Christ. And above all, Love God, Love everyone you see daily and Love and forgive yourself as you have no right to sit in judgement of even yourself. Let Mercy Reign.
