Why I Believe Being Slain In the Spirit Is From The Lord

Conclusion To Why I Believe Being Slain In the Spirit Is From The Lord

You can read part 1 on Being Slain in the Spirit where I give both sides, those are believe it’s from the Lord and those who don’t believe it is from God.

1.  Being slain in the Spirit is simply when the presence and power of God comes directly at you causing you to either fall forward or backward.

This power can either come directly through the hands of someone operating under the Lord’s anointing at any given moment, or directly at you by God Himself, such as when you see people falling to the ground while just sitting in their seats with no one laying a hand on them.

This manifestation of God’s power can either come directly at you very lightly where you just start to lose your balance and then proceed to fall.

Or it can come at you very strongly to the point where you cannot resist it and you are literally blown to the ground.

When this happens, it looks like a cannonball is hitting someone right in the stomach and they fall backwards with a fair amount of force.

God decides how strong He will manifest this kind of power when He does decide to manifest it on someone.

Granted, there will always be some people in a church service who will be falling backwards out of their own flesh. The power of God is not causing them to fall backward.

They just want to be part of the crowd and they will fall backwards all on their own.

However, you cannot throw out the baby with the bathwater on this manifestation just because some people will always choose to act out of their flesh.

2.  So what happens when people are slain in the Spirit? Sometimes just a nice, restful, peaceful, relaxed feeling will come over the person. Sometimes people can receive inner and/or outer healings while resting in the Spirit.

Some people can receive visions, instructions, or advice from the Lord on a situation that He may want to deal with them on. People can rest anywhere in the Spirit from 1-2 minutes or as long as 4-6 hours if God would choose to go that long with a particular individual.

For those of you who would like additional information on this phenomenon – there is a book titled “Overcome by the Spirit” by Francis MacNutt.

Francis MacNutt is an ex-Catholic priest who received a very powerful healing ministry from the Lord. He noticed that this phenomenon would occur quite often whenever he would lay hands on people for their healings.

He interviewed many people after they had fallen in the Spirit to find out what their reactions were, and exactly what had happened to them while they were resting in the Spirit. There are many direct quotes from the people he interviewed and it was all very positive.

He came to the conclusion that being slain in the Spirit was a very real manifestation of God that was occurring because of all the good fruit it produced in the people who had experienced this phenomena.

He said some of the actual healings that came through his ministry occurred when people were resting in the Spirit after he had initially laid hands on them.

This man, in my opinion, is a true servant of God. He explored this phenomenon with complete objectivity back in the 1970’s. He covers, in this most informative book, all of the things that he saw happen when this manifestation would occur.

Short Story

I will leave you with a short story on this manifestation occurring to someone I used to work with. I will never forget this testimony as long as I live. It was very touching and I felt like God allowed this story to come my way when it did to help confirm that this particular manifestation was really coming from Him.

About 20 years ago, I worked with a man who was a very devout Catholic. He was married with 2 girls, ages 8 and 11. There was a priest from Chicago who had come down for the Sunday service.

I cannot recall the name of the priest, but he had a healing ministry and he did a lot of traveling with the healing gift that God had given him. He too found that people would fall backwards whenever he would lay hands on them.

On the Sunday this event occurred, this man, his wife and his two girls all went to see this priest. When this priest then made the call for anyone to come up and have hands laid on them, all four of them went up just to see if God would do anything with any of them.

My friend said that absolutely nothing happened to either him, his wife, or his older 11-year-old daughter. They felt no power come against them and none of them fell backwards in the Spirit.

However, his youngest daughter, who was 8 years of age, was hit hard! He said she went down like a ton of bricks. He said it looked like a cannonball or bowling ball hit her right in the stomach blowing her backwards with great force. There obviously was a catcher behind her when she fell backward.

He said the minute she hit the ground, she started bawling profusely. He said she was crying as hard as she could. My friend initially thought there was something wrong with her because she was crying so hard. He then started to go over to see what was wrong with her, but he received an immediate check from the Holy Spirit that he was not to go near her, that God was doing something very special with her.

He said that she laid on the ground crying as hard as she could for a good 10-15 minutes.

After the 10-15 minutes, she all of a sudden quit crying and stood up. He immediately went over to her and started to walk with her outside. When they got outside, he turned to her and asked her why she had been crying so hard after she had been slain in the Spirit.

I will never forget these words as long as I live. This little 8-year-old girl turned to her daddy and said with a real big smile on her face:

“Daddy, Daddy, He felt so good, He felt so good!”

God was obviously manifesting His loving presence all over this little girl for the 10-15 minutes that she was “resting in the Spirit” to the point that she was crying as hard as she could. She obviously was in the manifest presence of God and He was allowing her to literally feel His love for her.

As I was driving home from work that day after hearing the above story, I then tapped in and asked God what had happened and was that really Him that did all of that.

These three words immediately came up out of my spirit and again, I will never forget these three words. The three words were – “I touched her” – with an emphasis on the word “touch.”

I then immediately started to laugh. He touched her, but she went down like a ton of bricks! I really felt like God was telling me two things with these three specific words:

  1. That it was His manifest presence that blew her backwards causing her to fall like she did, and that it was His manifest presence stirring on the inside of her causing her to cry as hard as she did.
  2. The fact that she told her dad that “He felt so good” – showed that God had to be literally manifesting His love to her where she could physically feel it all over her body.

You will each have to come to your own conclusions as to whether or not you feel this is a true manifestation from God.

For those of you who do believe that this is a real manifestation from the Lord, the above Scripture verses, and arguments off those Scripture verses, can give you some ammunition should you ever find yourself in a heated debate with another Christian over this topic.

As for myself, I really do believe this phenomenon is a true and powerful manifestation from the Lord when it really is Him doing it. But as with all of the other manifestations from God, there are always demons out there who will try and counterfeit some of His manifestations, along with other people just acting out and pretending God is manifesting on them when He is really not doing so.

These people are either operating under the power of suggestion, or they simply want to be part of the crowd if they see other people truly falling under the power of God.

But do not let counterfeit activity from the dark side, or some people acting out of their flesh prejudice you against what I feel is a very powerful and wonderful manifestation from the Lord when He does decide to do it on someone.

For those of you who have been truly slain in the Spirit, you know exactly what I am talking about since you have had this real experience. For those of you who have not – I challenge you to go direct to God the Father in prayer and ask Him to personally show you if this manifestation is something that is really coming from Him or not.

God loves it when you start to press in and ask Him specific questions on anything you may really want an answer on.

Ask, and you may just receive His direct answer on this topic!

A very realistic explanation. I believe I should ask God my Father to give me this good feeling and be often slained by the Comforter. Thanks so much for this article.

My name is Favour C. Kanjero. I am a Malawian lady aged 29. I thank God for this beautiful website which has helped me in my Christian walk with the Lord. It has helped answer the questions which I had and also it has taught me how to plead the blood of Jesus against every obstacle on my way. I just want to comment on the subject of being slain in the spirit. I want to share the experience which I had in 2011.
One day in February 2011 I went for prayers at harvest flames lunch hour fellowship. At the end of the service I remained in the prayer house because I wanted to chat with some believers who work in this ministry. But instead of chatting, somebody asked us to praise the Lord for the good message we had heard from the book of Mark 11vs 22-23. We started praising God. My fellow believers were praying in tongues and I was just praying with my understanding because by then I had not yet received the gift of speaking in tongues. We prayed up until I had no more words to tell the Lord and from nowhere this word Hallelujah came in my mind and I started saying it “Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah but in a low tone. Suddenly I just had a knowing that I should open up my hands and receive. Honestly my wind was fighting with this idea because it was asking me more questions like “ what are you receiving?” Is this not madness? But I obeyed the voice inside me that told me to open up my hands. Now I understand that sometimes what God asked us to do seem foolishness to our minds but we must obey and enjoy the blessings of God. We don’t have to reason when we receive any instruction from God.
Somebody asked us to come in front and hold our hands together in a circle way. By the way we were only five. And I always cherish the experience that the Lord gave me that day. When we held our hands , somebody started a worship song and when she started singing , from nowhere I started crying loudly and loosed my hands and fall down. I tried to control myself to stop crying but I was powerless under this beautiful Power of God. I just laid there crying loudly and powerless under His Power.
The results of this experience was that ; I started praying in tongues, before this experience I was a kind of a person who was easily get hurt and I saw that after the experience I had a peace of mind and the things which easily hurt me were no longer a problem. I thank the Lord for the beautiful experience. The slain of the spirit is real.

Hi Favour, thank you for sharing, that’s so awesome to hear your experience. You are correct, nothing is like it when you experience the supernatural power of our Lord!

      Favour Girl! =)
I feel blessed to read your comment! I had the same happen at a women’s retreat in 2000 and it forever changed my life! I was a new seeker of Christ and had asked him into my heart a few weeks prior.
Several of the women from our church were gathered around in a circle that night praying together. We were all holding hands and as we prayed I started slowly swaying back and forth with the circle, but then the swaying became more and more and suddenly I had no strength to stand and sunk to the ground. I remember I couldn’t see very clearly and there was a ringing in my ears so I couldn’t really hear clearly either. It was almost like a powerful bolt of lightning had just struck me! But the thing I remember most is crouching there and just weeping, crying like a baby. When the Holy Spirit touched me that night, it was so very healing! I had had a very hard life with lots of hurts and abuse before that and was carrying around a lot of pain with me that I hadn’t even realized. When He touched me, He realised it all from me and I suddenly cried all this hurt out of me. It was such a beautiful, healing cry! I don’t even remember how long I was there, crouched over crying and I barely remember the other women asking it I was ok and wondering. The thing I remember to this
day is how wonderful and clean I felt after that cry. I went back to my cabin that night feeling so physically drained but emotionally great. I got the most deep, peaceful sleep that night and when I woke up the next morning, I felt like a new creation! I had this deep peace and faith I hadn’t ever felt before and has just stayed with me! I completely turned my life around from that moment on. He captured my heart and I was so in love with Him, I had no desire to go back to my old ways. He changed and softened my heart and made me into a beautiful new creation and I’m so thankful each and every day that He did that for me. =)
      He is glorious!!

I have enjoyed this article so much. I am a christian and to believe in such a thing as slain in the spirit. I first heard these words a couple of days ago while watching the movie “The Fighting Temptations” and the word was used in a
couple of scenes in the movie and so I had to find out for sure what slain in the spirit really meant.

last night as the missionaries praying and laying their hands unto me, for the first time in my life as being a born again christian, it is my first time slain by the Spirit. i just remember that when they lay their hands to my head and they start praying i cannot remember what they are praying it like everything went blank and my body became numb… and like your story… as i lay down i cannot move, but i know i’m crying also and calling God and Jesus! i cannot express what i feel… even when i return to my place standing i still feel the power cause almost i feel backward…

I was forty two when I decided I wanted to quit smoking cigarettes. I had tried many times on my own. But I always went back to smoking. This time was different. I prayed God, Please help me to not want to smoke anymore. I went to this church and I ask the pastor to be praying for me, for I was expecting a miracle, I wanted to stop smoking and I knew it would have to be God to take it from me. I prayed, and prayed, and went back to church the next night during the revival, and a message came in tongues, then there was an interpretation, I knew it was for me, I couldn’t get down to the alter fast enough.
As I approached the alter the pastor came to me, and smiled and laid his hands on my head and all I can remember him saying, is ” I feel it coming” and I went out like a light. I fell from a standing position backwards and my husband who was raised Luthern, told me I was out for twenty minutes. I trusted God to take the cigarette habit from me, and that is what He did.
You see, That was 23 years ago. Feb 3 1992.. Never wanted another cigarette, I tested the spirit, and when I tried to smoke, I became deadly sick, throwing up and felt this was the Holy Spirit letting me know that that had been removed and could no longer have a place in God’s temple. Our bodies are the temple of GOD. I have never even wanted to smoke , I do not like to be around smoke as it bothers me to breathe it, it is very irritating smell.
I thank God for what He did for me that night, and what he does for me each day I live. Faith, believe and trust, and do not limit our God as to what He can do for us If we will only Trust and obey.

    Hello All,

I would like to share an experience I had just on this pass Sunday. I had an encounter that I must share. The reason I am even on this site is because I am trying to get a better understanding of what actually happened to me.

So, as an usher it is my duty to kind of catch the people who do fall out in the Spirit. I catch them that’s all. Honestly, I never personally experienced it before Sunday.

As usual, I was on my post and the Holy Spirit fell on one of the women in my church so I went to stand near her in case she fell. Well when I got close to her (on the pulpit) My Pastor got up and begin to put oil on my head and my neck and instantly, a gentle feeling came over me and I begin to fall backwards, I was out of my control and before I ever touched the ground I was already in another place.

I can try to explain the peace that came over me but honestly it was so powerful that I almost fell asleep. I just laid there in God’s presence as He manifested his love for me. I do not remember what was going on around me, I could hear the music and people talking and singing but I was resting in Jesus.

Before I did not know what it was like to be slain in the Spirit, but now I know God was healing me down there and setting me free, all while I just rested.

God is faithful and I know He will do it for me again.

    Be Blessed!

When we were still unsaved my wife and I went to a church service. I cant recall why we went, but as a spiritual seeker I was often drawn to Christians even though I had been deeply swallowed up in new age practices.

During the preaching I remember making fun of the service and the pastor and the next thing walking to the front after an altar call. I looked around to my wife and shrugged my shoulders to say I don’t know why I’m doing this.

She told me later that the pastor prayed over me and I fell to the floor without any catchers. She tells me that I fell like a feather. Whilst down there I had quite an experience that I believe began my walk to Jesus.

It was not a simple thing for me to walk in to God’s kingdom. I had been claimed by Satan during varying deep new age activities. The leader in one practice had told me to open myself up to accept anything that came to help me during the breath work meditation that aimed to open so called Chakras in my body. The result of one session in 1998 resulted in me experiencing so called Kundalini (said to be a serpent uncoiling within !! ) and visiting the spirit realm (but not with God).

After we had accepted Jesus in 2002 at Beachway Church in Perth WA I fell to the floor under the prayers of a beautiful man of God visiting our church. Whilst I was laying on the floor I was fully conscious and began to feel like a fraud, as if I had fallen just to be one of the crowd. I thought “When the pastor passes down the line far enough I will quietly get up and get back to my seat.”

When I tried to move – I could not not even lift a finger. I was truly imobilised. It felt like I had been nailed to the floor whilst fully conscious. The line of people on the floor gradually got up over time and returned to their seats. I was left there right next to Vivienne a beautiful woman of God who was also fully slain in the Spirit.

Her husband and my wife sat there as the service ended and the church emptied. They wondered when we would ever get up. After we were alone God began his healing work on me. Without the congregation – I assume so as not to frighten others, and laying beside this lovely lady of God, my body was dramatically purged of the results of those ungodly works. Loud moans and convulsions from the abdomen and stomach went on for quite some time until eventually I was calm and at peace.

I thank God through Jesus Christ for all the ways He is able to save those who truly seek Him.

I am looking for a scripture to help teach those that “work” around the alter if you will. I want to teach on how to deal with those who are slain in Spirit. For example, not touching them while they are under and allowing them to come to themselves and not interrupt the process.

Your views and beliefs seems convincing but with no scriptural references. (Galatians 1:8-9)

He gave a list of scripture references at the beginning of Slain..Part 1.

Is it possible to be hit by the holy spirit while you’re not praying? Or does it only happen during prayer?
